I like how in usershops, we can preview what some wardrobe items look like on our avatars. I think it would be a great idea to input this into the NPC shops as well, so that we can see what items look like on our avatar, and if we like that particular item or not.
It has been suggested several times, and always gets shot down.
The main issue is that the preview window also displays lots of other info about items, such as rarity. Having this info displayed in the shops makes it too easy to find high rarity/value items in NPC shops. It won't happen.
Well, what if they made a special version for the NPC shops, where it didn't display the rarity? Problem solved :)
It would also take a lot longer to load the NPC shops if that were to happen.
And as for this:
Like half the site is broken. I would prefer that they fix something else first, personally :D
I think this feature is fine in the Holiday Shops (Masq, Esthers, Plots) but keep it out of the Main Shops where speed is of the essence.
If you can't figure out what something looks like check SubetaLodge. No need to increase lag for something that isn't absolutely needed.
I think "just the preview" has been suggested before too, and shot down for reasons already mentioned here. Lagging up the main shops. So no thanks.
In addition to SubetaLodge, you can also look up the items that interest you in shop search. Hovers are on the item images above shop search results, so you can take a look at it there while you're checking out the user shop price.
If you're wondering what the item looks like... just open a Shop Search in a different tab and look at that. Problem solved.
I find the main shops are mostly for people who are looking for a specific item, or are trying to stock their shops. For them, a popup window with an item preview will just lag up the shop. Lots of people will start complaining how they can never RS good items due to the lag. (Happened with the advertisements in shops.)
If you are just browsing shops, then it would probably be best to take your time and look up the item using other means.

This subject would be a good addition to the Frequently Requested Suggestions sticky.
There's absolutely no reason to code a separate set of NPC shops just to show wearable overlay previews. Plenty of alternatives to this suggestion already exist.
