Sometimes when purchasing from NPC shops the verification code is not showing up. Only a price for the item is needed. I thought this might be tied to coming in off of Shop Search rather than going through the shop, but there is no rhyme nor reason to when the verification appears, and when it is not present, it is possible to still buy the item. Thoughts on what is causing this?

This isn't a bug. Some low rarity items from main shops do not have captcha codes anymore.

It's been happening on the same item at various times. Is it random?

I wasn't keeping track of specific items, though I will from this point forward. There have been several I know of, however.

The above is correct. Rarity 50 and below should not have captchas. If you see one that does, please take note of the item. Or vice versa, if you see one above 50 that does not have a captcha also take note. You can see the board about that change below.
