I attended Matthew Dickman's poetry reading tonight.
I also like Jae Choi's style, and have been attuned to Elizabeth Bishop. I heard Bob Kaufman is hot stuff.
And you?
p.s. My tumblr has my poems in it.
I've been sort of slacking on reading poetry here lately, but some of my more recently discovered favorites are Billy Collins (why didn't I get around to reading his poetry sooner???), Henry Hart, and Dorianne Laux.
Billy Collins has some really awesome animated poems on YouTube if you haven't seen them. Here's one of my faves, The Country
My favorites are Leonard Cohen, Christian Bok and W. H. Auden. I'm going to see Leonard Cohen perform live in November and I absolutely can't wait. ❤
I have too, especially after rekindling my subeta addiction. :D Wow, lucky you! Auden-- that name sounds familiar. I will read the poets you two have mentioned this weekend, when I have some more time!
In the meantime, Jae Choi is coming to workshop with my creative writing class tomorrow! I love her poetry, although I can barely find any of hers online.
One of her poems: IN THE ROOT NOW OPENED
First I was element. Then I was fish in the element.
A heat, overspread, shook the clouds into de-seeded chambers,
trenching, forked-down asymmetries. I was, in excess,
dragged downstream, a cabinet of soaked leaves
rebuffing a chopped wave and west. Would I clear
where I was stepped from oiled iridescence?
Finning matter to matter, immaculate desert,
the mounded parities came tilting in steep risers,
air-bubbling-after, and I was adrift.
