This post is for those of you who share an enjoyment of the video game Far Cry 3. Although there is soon to be a fourth installment, I still hold my opinion that this third one was a pretty good installment for the series. It brought it back from the dead, made a good impression on most, and still holds light even two years(ish) later.
Gotta be honest, although the fanbase for this game isn't all that big, I enjoy the hell out of it even today. Vaas is one of my favorite characters, and although that is a common opinion among the communities for this particular game, I believe he was well-written, but not without his flaws. I also enjoyed Sam Becker, and although he wasn't around for very long, I actually didn't mind Riley Brody all that much either.
What about you, guys?
The 2nd game was incredibly fun although it had annoying mechanics, I felt more immersed in that one. Having said all that, I feel FC3 is the better game overall. I'm with you on Vaas, I wish we could have at least played as him in some kind of dlc. I couldn't get over Riley whining so much while I'm slaughtering tons of people and taking animal pelts left and right. That sort of thing I feel plagues all these kinds of games though. InFamous 1 is another that comes to mind.
Anyways back on topic I really liked the stealth in the game. One time I was scoping out a checkpoint and I go inside through a hole in the fence when I hear a tiger. I look behind me and it's ready to pounce. I run through the checkpoint alerting everyone inside, they focus their gunfire on me but the tiger eventually takes them out from behind.
I definitely agree with the DLC. Although Ubisoft is notorious for lacking the ability to listen to what the fans of their games are asking for. They kind of brush that off and put it aside.
The stealth was phenomenal. It was so much fun taking outposts for your own. Using the animals to your advantage is probably part of the beauty of the game. Especially when the game's AI kind of just has the animal wander from various parts of the map.
I had a bear take down an outpost after chasing me for a little ways. Beautiful execution! I have yet to play the first and second Far Cry games, although they are on my Steam account!
Definitely worth playing!
At one point I felt pretty bad slaughtering all those animals, I definitely chased down deer just to for fun whenever I got bored on my way to a tower or mission. I should go back to the game and try hunting with the bow and arrow.
Far Cry 2's story was pretty good (especially the last mission), the game is annoying because enemies always respawn at the outposts and the maleria but that gets cleared up in the 2nd act so stick through it and help civilians they give you medicine. The one mechanic I did like was the fact that your guns rust and can jam up (although they rust waaay to fast and the face that enemies rusted guns work 100% fine) It's best to just avoid the road altogether. I never felt so scared hearing a truck roll up behind me while I hide in behind a tree or bush.
Ahh sweet, so it has a sort of suspense. That's actually pretty cool. I've heard that there were some weak components to the game (as there are with every game), but I actually haven't heard that much of Far Cry 2. They could've carried some of the ideas from 2 to 3 and then 4, even. I doubt they will, but the idea is always there.
The whole idea of there being suspense is brilliant though. Getting the player to actually feel the fear is awesome. Most horror games can't even achieve that today, whew. Does your character have the opportunity to suffer from malaria?
You get infected at the start of the game but you cant re catch it. It's apart of the first act of the game. The map system in fc2 was brilliant, the map was on your person so you had to switch to it by putting a gun away. No start screen, something I missed a lot in the 3rd game. You also get a chance to save a person who becomes another contact for you. The game really felt like war torn africa, except without the brutal reality of how it actually is over there. The gun rusting would have been great if it carried over but I think most people didn't like that at all in the game. I enjoyed it though, it was really different from any other FPS out there because of it.
The 4th one looks amazing, the new character seems he may be even crazier than Vaas. I really need to get a ps4 this fall.
I'm interested to see how it's going to turn out. I know that, in an interview, these were saying that Pagan is going to be related to AJ somehow. It seems like they've taken the extra mile to acknowledge what's been successful in their games thus far. I'm definitely jazzed to see what they do. Unfortunately, the consoles are expensive as all hell, so I might end up having to watch a walkthrough. Sadness... I still have an Xbox 360, and can't upgrade to a PS4. Ahh well, there's always the Internet!
