For the first 6 months I was a member I quested damn near every day, priced my shop, played games, fragged junk, and basically did everything you can do to earn sP. I saved up mils, fleshed out my wardrobe and pet TCs with some coveted stuff, trained my battle pet to tier 5, and I'm nowhere near reaching any of the goals I set for myself. I hit 120mil and spent half of it in a month, and now I have like zero interest in doing anything to build it back up even though I'd really like to reach 200mil. I'm basically logging on every day to stick my pet back in the auto-trainer and glance at the news.
I guess my question is, have any of you guys gone through periods where you just have no Subeta motivation? What do you do when you're sick of doing your daily grind? I'm tempted to just do the 1000CSC/month subscription thing to avoid having to quest at this point.
I find if I do a lot of things on here for an extended period of time (like participating in every event during the fall and winter) I get burnt out. For months now, I've just been doing as much as I wanted to do each day and not letting myself get too caught up on goals. Most days I'll do at least three quests and I'll price a few items in my shop. Some days I'll do all possible quests (except usually not Major Drills because I find him annoying) and other days I'll do a lot of restocking. There are always a few days along where I basically just wander around the site aimlessly, maybe working on my WL or lurking in forums.
It might be helpful to you to take a semi-hiatus for a few weeks just to give yourself a break. Also, it might be helpful to re-evaluate where you are at right now and set different, more (quickly) attainable goals. You could conceivably do both. Take a semi-hiatus and use the time to figure out new priorities. -shrugs-
I agree with to take a break. I was a bit burnt-out last month... Now that I'm taking summer classes I'm getting back into the swing of things here (awful timing) but I find that it is easy if you find something to focus on. How do your pets' profile pages look? Maybe work on some coding if you know it or search for fun items for their treasures. Look for new achievements. Fill out your beanbag or plushie collection. Anything like that helps me get back into subeta. :)
Oh for sure. I've taken three separate year-long hiatuses just because I ended up getting bored. But I always came back and got into it again :P
I guess I've always had consistent long-term goals of getting all the achievements/collections, so I always had something to work towards? Picking some big goals makes it more fun to do the really repetitive stuff because quests and games get really old otherwise.
You said your goal was to make a bunch of sp but I find 'make lots of money' goals don't work very well, because it's just sitting there doing nothing and passing milestones isn't very interesting. Pick a goal where you have to keep buying items for it. Then each time you save enough to buy the next thing at least you'll feel like you accomplished something.
I'm honestly surprised you were able to do all those things every single day for 6 months. I can't DO ALL THE THINGS every day for more than a week unless I have a very specific goal, and even then it's like torture!
What helps me stay interested is to just do what I feel like doing, and if I don't feel like doing anything that day, well, then I just won't do anything. Especially if I either don't have the time or energy because of more important things irl. It seems counterintuitive, but it really works. Task lists and checklists work irl because you know you have to get the things done, and if you don't, bad things will happen. Real life is only negative consequences, Subeta is only positive consequences.
As a result of that, if you find yourself not wanting to do anything for days or weeks in a row, then maybe you weren't all that interested in the first place, and it would be a waste of time and energy to force yourself to continue doing things you don't enjoy for no real purpose. Now that inactive accounts don't get deleted anymore, you're free to come back anytime you want and continue where you left off!
One thing that actually keeps me motivated though, is setting myself an actual specific item goal. If I need to save up 10 mil to get a specific item, it's a lot more fun than saving up 10 mil just because. Having tons of sP just sitting there will never feel as rewarding as saving up and buying something you really want.
Short answer: no one and nothing but yourself is forcing you to do these things, so don't do them if you don't enjoy them.
🐧🐧
I'm in one of those periods right now. I basically just log on to look at things and maybe make a HA, train pet? Otherwise I just go to some other part of the internet to watch my shows or something. lol. Like Affirmation said, you don't have to stay here if you're unmotivated to. That's a combination of you growing out of your Subeta phase/Subeta slowly becoming less interesting to oldies. I mean even my cult's in a bit of a rut right now because no one feels like doing anything xD Just wait it off, take a rest, and if it interests you again, go for it c:
I'm in the club of those who are really impressed with your "usual" level of activity. You made 120mill in six months? It took me six years to hit the 100mill mark in pure. Tell me your secret!
No, the point is, as has been said above, just do whatever you feel like. As with all other things in life, your interest and motivation will wax and wane. Subeta shouldn't be a chore, just fun, and everyone plays differently. Some people jog down the path to their goals, others stroll. If you need a break, take a break, and when you come back, Subeta will still be here. :)
Thank you so much for the responses, guys! (And sorry for the late reply, I was kind of forced into going into a semi-hiatus by really shitty hotel wifi for a few days there.)
You're both right, I think. It's time to make some new goals. It was finishing my pet pages before, but that's a little bit too much to take on at one time.
I haven't really tried the 'save up for a specific item' approach yet. It's just been like 'get x sP and then spend it on stuff.' Maybe I'll work towards my Omen Islands map. :D
I think maybe the answer is to focus more on Subeta-stuff that I'm doing off-site. Like drawing my pet overlays and stuff. :) Maybe the fall events will get your cult pumped up again?
XD It actually wasn't that hard? I just dedicated about an hour a day every day to it. Doing most of the main quests+Shinwa+Item hunt and selling the prizes can easily net you 3-5 mil a day on its own. A month of that and you could be at 100mil easy.
I think I'm going to rework my Subeta goals and find something different to focus on than just quests and stuff. Maybe a CW shop of something?
It happened only one time, when I just avoided doing quests and barely participated in the current event (Vesnali). But that was like... 2 years ago. I never wanted to do that again, though. Problem is, over the summer it gets sooooo damn boring doing only quests and games (even so, I do them everyday). It would be a lot more exciting if there was some event going on.
I am too addicted to Subeta to actually take a hiatus though
I try and prevent that by only doing full quests one or two days a week. That and every goal I set is tied to a very specific item/item set. I have two other sites that I consider myself really active on, so if I ever get bored with one, or lose my mojo, I can switch out.
I feel like I'm too addicted to take a hiatus, too! For me, the problem is I have just no motivation to do the stuff I used to do, but I really WANT to do it because I had a blast with working that hard and earning that much. XD
Unfortunately I don't have a set work schedule so it would be really hard for me to stick to doing quests on the 'weekend' or whatever. But I do like the idea of working on toward a few items at a time! I think I'm just going to look into other ways to make sP. Maybe take commissions or buy a subscription or something. :D
