Has anyone ever played a run of Nuzlocke or Wonderlocke with any of their Pokemon games? I'm going to be starting a Wonderlocke run soon and it sounds like so much fun!
For those who don't know, Nuzlocke is when you play Pokemon only using the first Pokemon you encounter in an area. If your Pokemon ever faints, it is considered "dead" and cannot be used again in that game. Wonderlocke is something similar, only the first Pokemon encounter must be caught and then traded over Wonder Trade. To make things more interesting, you can also impose rules like "no items can be used" or something.
For those who have played, how strict/lax were you with your rules? Which rules did you choose to play by?
I've never heard of these before but it sounds like so much fun! I recently re-started my Y version (I'm using it to collect Vivillon patterns. xD) and I'm trying to get my starter Pokemon with my ideal nature for it before I really get going, so I might give one of these a try! xD I'll probably be extremely lax on the rules since it'll be my first try playing this way, and I'll probably try Wonderlocke since that sounds like a total blast. xD
They're really hard. I'm currently doing a Black 2 on Challenge mode and it's destroying me, haha. I'm in an attempt to illustrate it as well, but it's not looking like I'm getting past the 3rd gym any time soon.
If I can offer any advice... Grind(train) like you have never grinded before. Or you will die early, lol. I definitely recommend being easy on yourself. Like giving yourself one or two saves on any deaths. In addition, when you're power training; Pay. Attention. I can't tell you the countless times I've lost good team mates when grinding and I'll just space out and before you know it boop 0HP!
As for my runs? I've been extremely strict on the majority of them (I've done like, 6 or 7 but I always die... by the 5th gym). My best play through was Pokemon Red and I made it to Giovanni (8th Gym badge) and his Nidoqueen obliterated everyone on my team (because my Water type got sacked while grinding and I had no other defence against Earthquake).
Good luck to the both of you! :D
I can't even figure out how to turn on Challenge mode, let alone play it lol. But yeah, grind grind grind grind grinding all day long!
I can't remember, but I think you have to beat the game first to receive the Challenge and Easy Key's, along with Black City/White Forest. Then you can send them to people and once you send it I think you can reset the game and receive the key back? Or just ask someone who has a Challenge/Easy mode Key?
I don't really remember! D':
It's okay, I'm not really in any rush to play it. xD I really do hope my new Y version gets here soon, though, I want to start Wonderlocking!
Good, cause I don't recommend it for new Nuzlockers, haha! XD
Again, good luck on your Wonderlocke! :)
I have my rules! Mwahahaha...
Never heard of either and not sure I can follow all of that x_x
It is makeing me want to put more "good" hatchlings in WT though to help those that are wonderlocking while I am trying to masuda stuff.
Has all 2009 strains, all 2010 strains, all 2011 strains, all 2012 strains, all 2015 strains, all 2016 strains, all 2017 strains, all 2018 strains, all 2019 strains, all 2020 strains, all 2021 strains, all 2022 strains, All 2023 strains, all 2024 strains, all Vial strains, Biodoominessence, Batnip, Cakewalk, and Stalacbite,
Got my game today and started! First Pokemon obtained from WT: Litleo! Not bad :)
I'm currently playing a Nuzlocke with my White 2 edition. I tried it with Diamond as well, I've failed, but I'd rather consider it a testrun now, as I just rushed. I'm not restricting healing and have no level cap. Just catch/use the first pokémon (and every shiny) on every route/city and release it if it faints. Just doing it to play with pokémon I'd usually wouldn't use, I'm not an experienced player who seeks a new challenge.
I've got my team!
Litleo Charmander Feebas Eevee Bouffalant Gible
A little fire heavy for my taste, but we'll see how it goes. Already defeated the first gym!
Yep, I did a wonderlocke, and guess what pokemon became my ace? :D Crobat! I got a zubat in wondertrade which lasted the whole wonderlocke. It really is a shame people hate zubat so much. :/

I love Crobat! I just hate going through caves because basically all you encounter is Zubat and Geodude. It can be maddening. xD
Yeah well, I can see how people would hate encountering the same few pokemon. I usually have a ton of repels so it never bothered me. XD

I've never played Nuzlocke or Wonderlocke but I like looking at the comics or stories people make about their runs sometimes. It sounds really fun. I should restart one of my old games and do a Nuzlocke run.
Looking forward to seeing more about your run!
I restarted my Pokemon Y and play it Wonderlocke. But a bit different. I only catch 5 Pokemon at the beginning and then never again. The Starter + the 5 catched Pokemon will be traded via Wondertrade and that is my Team. Every Time a Pokemon faints it is traded again via Wondertrade. My Beginner Team was: Pikachu, Abra, Gligar, Rihorn, Zubat and Piplup It is really Fun. I had Pokemon, I never would have used if I had a free choice. I just defeated Yveltal, my actual Team is in Levelrange 60 and these are my Teammates: Aurorus, Gligar, Mienshao, Klefki, Raichu and Empoleon The biggest loss was a Shelgon one level before evolving to Salamence.
A buddy of mine did it this way too, and I had considered it when I started. I might restart and try it this way.
Good luck with this, all I can say is... it can be so stressful sometimes.... a challenge none the less, fun too but really sometimes it's stressful.
I've only done 2 Nuzlocke challenges, one for the original Ruby (before I gave the game away) and one for Y. Made it to Victory Road and had to stop because I knew I was going to lose with the team I had.
I generally follow the basic rules and only ever add like 1 or 3 of my own. (Usually involves how many Pokeballs you carry, Dupes Clause, and treat gift Pokemon/Event Pokemon as a separate encounter.)
I have been following a few Wonderlockes on Youtube and it kinda looks exciting and I do wanna try that one day... maybe after Ruby and Sapphire's release.
I think i'm going to start a Wonderlocke this evening. I've looked into them before, but i've never tried it. Seems like it could be a fun way to relax for a bit each day. I just have to find my DS charger. I was kind of iffy about restarting my Pokemon X game, but I really never play anyhow, so it couldn't hurt.
