I've finally decided to stop lurking around, not posting anything. Been around for about a day and a half, so I might as well finally introduce myself. I'm a recent college grad (whoo!), writer/artist, and native New Yorker, hailing from Brooklyn. I haven't had a virtual identity since I was in high school, but I do find this whole experience to be pretty nostalgic, but still a lot of fun.
Friends are always welcomed, so feel free to hit me up or send a friend request! :)
Welcome to Subeta! I love (red) pandas & I'm currently based in NYC too (Harlem) c: Have you ever played a similar site before? c: You seem like your finding your way around fine, but don't be a stranger if you've any questions!

Hi ! Red pandas are pretty up there on the cute scale! I also used to live in Harlem, as well for about five years (west side). And I'd have to say this is like a combination of Neopets and Gaia. I haven't been a part of either site for YEARS. Almost a decade for the both of them.
And now I feel old. :P
Thanks for stopping by!
I'm worse, my neopets account is over half my age :9 I've been in west harlem for about 2-3 years now, but the neighbourhood has certainly been changing a lot n_n

Haha, oh yeah. I know that feeling. My account wasn't even made in this century! Unfortunately I lost it in their purge. T-T
And all things considered, I do miss living there. It was easy to get anywhere except my school, which was on the east side. And I'm sure you're aware of how nutty it is to get to either side above 59th street. Took me an hour and change, and three trains to get to school. Car ride? Fourteen minutes.
I'm actually just sitting here debating whether I want to head on over to the east side to get my fav vietnamese hahah n___n; My roommate currently works in east bronx, and her commute is probably an hour too

Oooh, what's the restaurant? My friend and I were in the upper east side trying to find authentic Vietnamese food. We found a relatively new spot near 86th and 2nd. He wasn't a huge fan seeing as he grew up on the food. It's kinda tough finding GOOD Asian restaurants in general.
Haha, was it Vietnaam88? It used to be called Veatery, and imo it was better then. It's fairly good in my opinion, but I'm not vietnamese, so I can never be 100%
I feel like it's probably a mix of authentic and americanised vietnamese food, because in New Zealand, I've had Vietnamese by a proper Vietnamese family, whereas this place is Chinese-run, though they could be Vietnamese chinese I guess?
Have you ever been to Xi'an famous foods? If you don't mind the spice, it's a fairly nice chain of chinese food c: I also enjoy Vanessa's dumplings n_n

I haven't tried Xi'an famous food, but I do love spicy food. And I actually don't really remember. It was a very new shop. I think it was a different restaurant because it was brand new, and not a rebrand. Like I said, I found most of it pretty delicious, but my Vietnamese friend wasn't impressed at all. But then again, I feel that way about certain Thai foods since I grew up with a Thai best friend. Her mother used to feed me stuff I wouldn't even know the name of, and therefore, I look at the (often Chinese owned) Thai restaurants with a side eye, haha. It's also like that with Caribbean food. It's SO hard to find places that are really good in that demographic. I've been spoiled for a good chunk of my childhood and preteen years with that, and then on top of that, when I visited Puerto Rico, I was blown away by food quality. To the point where I became upset that we didn't have equally awesome tasting food. You're from NZ, I'm guessing, , so I'm guessing that you can tell a difference? I lived in the UK, and I must say that their dairy is FAR superior to what we get in NYC.
Well it could be a different restaurant, but I can't think of that many vietnamese places on 86th/2nd, this one I go to is on... 88th/2nd ^__^ I found it after visiting two little red hens, which I do enjoy now and then c':
Yeah, I'm originally from NZ. It's odd I find american dairy not easy on my stomach, and yeah the overall standard of dairy and meat in NZ is better (in my opinion) but I guess it's also what you grow up on? Different people have different opinions on what is tasty I guess xD
My roommate taught in Thailand for a while, I quite like Pure Thai in Hell's Kitchen! There's some other places in Brooklyn/LES that I've meant to try, but thi's one's just convenient for location ^__^;

Yes! I lived in the UK for a year, and I definitely noticed a difference in certain food qualities. Fruit is WAY better and there's a larger range of diversity there, and dairy. DAIRY!! I usually hate yogurt over here, but in the UK, that was a staple thing for snacks. I think they add a lot of unsaid thing over here in the food. As a general, I don't trust a lot of it. But I have no choice in what kinds of food I can eat while living here.
Also, are you familiar with Brooklyn, at all? My stomping grounds cover downtown BK, so if you have questions, I can guestimate where to eat and SOME places to hang out around there. Nightlife is more in Williamsburg, but I don't know that area. In Downtown Brooklyn, there are some nice places off of the borough hall station. Just walk up and down Court Street, and you're bound to hit some places. Have you been to the Promenade, yet? It's also in that area. I took my boyfriend there for the first time last year and his jaw fell open. He's lived in the Bronx for all of his life and he'd never seen it before. Quite beautiful, especially at sunset going into nighttime.
I'm not as familiar with Brooklyn as I'd like to be, I'm a bit of a coffee snob so I get coffee a lot haha uhm Dumbo, W'burg, and I've been to places and not remembered the area haha x')
Are you not originally from the US? Here when I buy for myself I try to get organic cos I don't know x') Food politics seem complicated n_n

I'm a native Brooklynite! But traveling abroad means that I've experienced food quality outside of the US. And it's depressing. The further Ito a city you get, the less food quality you'll get. Like fruit! You can get good quality locally-grown fruit in Long Island. I think they're more prone to using the nearby farms to save on shipping and the like. But in the city with a larger population, stores are more likely to buy from bigger processed farms. That's why I like farmer's markets. nnAnd I think you should check out downtown Brooklyn! It's a really nice area. You could start from DUMBO, and then go into the Brooklyn bridge park. So nice, especially on gorgeous days like today. :)
I've never been to the bridge park properly, I've always wanted to go to the summer movies that they screen there? But I always work very late so I tend to miss them :< I shop from wholefoods a lot, because it's just easier to get fresh produce there and I don't eat so much that I the cost difference affects me so much c'x

Oh, I know that feeling. I'd always have work all week, then classes on the weekends. No time for any fun! Hopefully, now that I've graduated, it opens my schedule up. I wanna do fun things! Fun things close by the time I get around to doing them, or it's really expensive. Boo! I refuse to have a COMPLETELY boring life, you know?? Haha
