Every time I decide, "Eh...why not? Maybe I'll get a tome" whenever I turn in a mage amulet, and he gives me a shard, I can't help but think, in Cave Johnson's voice, "I DON'T WANT YOUR DAMN SHARDS! WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO WITH THESE?" which makes me laugh.

I actually don't really mind that much when I get a shard instead. I just remember getting the amulet was a boon anyway and I didn't really lose anything to get it, generally speaking. It's like how I'd console myself if I went on a game show and lost in a way that would make the audience think I was a total moron. I didn't technically lose anything since as far as I know, aside from some time, it costs nothing to go on a show like that.

But it is fun to finish the Cave Johnson rant all the same. "DEMAND TO SEE THE MAGE'S MANAGER! DO YOU KNOW WHO I AM? I'M THE GAL WHO'S GOING TO BURN DOWN YOUR COTTAGE! WITH THE SHARDS!"
