Any Pern fans here? I'd love to discuss different aspects of the storylines, characters and Pern society in general.
To start things off, how about discussing F'lar and his blind spots? For such a visionary man, his biases blinded him in some ways.

I am a massive fan of pern, been awhile since I read them, I love the way Jaxom helped ruth emerge from his shell, those 2 are good together, Menolly has always been my fav character, I often read the stories about her the most
waves Hello! Menolly is also a favorite of mine. I find Jaxom a tad boring though for some reason. Any topics you'd like to discuss?

Haven't read them in a while, but I do enjoy the series. Jaxom annoyed the crap out of me mostly because the kid never seemed to be happy.
Lessa's ongoing bitchiness/desire to manipulate everything was frustrating, but made her an interesting MC.
While I can understand why she was the way she was, it made her a fairly unsympathetic personality. muses Most of the women tended to be extreme, one way or another. Brekke was the ultimate doormat, while Kylara was pretty much a sociopath. Sharra and Menolly are the only well-balanced women of any rank, I think.

Yeah, they were definitely in the extremes. Kylara needed a good punch to the face. Have you given Todd's books a shot? I don't enjoy them personally. He's supposedly passing it off to his sister to write for now.
I've tried a couple of his books but honestly he just doesn't have Anne's touch.

I'm not even really a fan of her writing, but I enjoy her worlds. She always struck me as trying to show off her vocabulary and having no concept of showing the passage of time.
Todd just... Throws characters in there, makes you feel like they're going to matter and then lets them fade out without any purpose. It's weird. I made it about halfway through one of his and just couldn't do it.
nods That's about how it was for me with Todd. As for characters, for some reason I prefer Anne's secondary characters over main characters. Menolly and Afra, for example.

This is one of the few book (series) I refused to get rid of when I went mostly over to my kindle. I have not read it in years but I am definitely considering it again. Been so long! I do believe I am still missing some books though at the time I was a kid and couldn't just go out and get them. :D
I have the first book where a girl goes out and gets a handful of baby dragons then the following three books (came as a set). Now I am definitely looking into the rest!
Menolly is by far my favorite character in the whole series. I have most of the books Anne wrote, and a couple that her son wrote, but the Ninth Pass books are the best.

I love Pern books, everytime I read them, I feel like I was sitting in the cozy bed with a purring cat on the laps :) I love Menolly and Piemur most but the main plot about Lessa and other riders also is very interesting <3
I also like Menolly and Piemur. Piemur more than Menolly :)
I like both equally. But I must admit that book about Piemur was more interesting than about Menolly - for meh ;)
I haven't read the books yet, but my highschool was giving rid of a bunch of books/novels that haven't been checked out in a while (5-10 years). I don't know if they were being recycled or donated, but I asked the librarian if I could take some of the books home to read and have, since they were getting rid of them anyway. Long story short, I got almost all of the Pern books except for a few. Series looks really interesting and I like dragons, so it's a win-win. i'm currently reading another series, so this series will have to wait.
Nice! I think you'll like them.

Been so long since I read that series but have some good memories. I believe I liked her other series better however.. Brain and Brawn series for one.
I liked The Ship Who Sang but not the others. I liked the Rowan series better.
