Hi everyone!

So my family rescues animals. (Specifically cats and horses, but we've pulled in everything from rabbits to mice to birds in the past, too.) We're all kind of nuts, but apparently it runs in our blood. Some of you might remember how just over a year ago, I saved a horse from being slaughtered for meat. He's turning 9 in about a week. It was an insane year and that horse wouldn't be alive today if it wasn't for us and the time, care, and ridiculous vet bills we put into him.

When I say we 'rescue', I don't mean we occasionally pick up a cute kitten from the local Humane Society-- I mean our last rescue was a cat who was two days away from being euthanized at a 72-hour kill pen pound, and we forged documentation and drove two hours and called vets and fellow rescuers and yelled at a lot of people just to get him safe at home with us. That was Moka. When I rescued Locke, I outbid two kill-buyers at an auction that otherwise would have ended with him on a slaughter truck.

We pull animals out of situations where they would otherwise have no chance. We are their last chance. And god, we love what we do.

We're not a formal rescue; it's literally just my mother, father, sister and I, opening up our hearts and our home to animals that need it. We don't rehome because we feel like the animals we rescue deserve to know that this home is forever. We've never gotten in over our heads, or taken on anything we couldn't handle.

But sometimes it's really nice to have a helping hand. So we started a GoFundMe where people can donate their spare change! (Or more, if that's your thing.)

We'd love absolutely anything you could give us. There are more details on the page itself, but if you happen to live in Canada or the US, there are a few special rewards I can give you for donating a certain amount-- if you're in Canada and you donate $20, for example, I'll blend you your very own custom loose-leaf tea. It can be anything from a tea based on 'you', if you want to tell me a bit about yourself, to a tea for rainy nights, to a tea that just has a specific taste. <3 We also have things like organically-grown preserves and jams, which come right out of our garden every year.

Seriously, anything you can offer would be great. If you donate, leave me a note telling me your Subeta username and I'll make sure to send you something nice here!

You can also check out pictures of our cat rescues on Facebook, here, and of Locke over here.

Thank you! <3

(and, you know, ping your friends and all that!)

You and your family are such wonderful people, and I can't thank you enough for what you do! If I were not broke right now, I would donate, but alas... I myself work at an animal shelter that is thankfully no-kill, and I see horrors almost every day. People do terrible things to animals and it's heartbreaking, so it's awesome to see someone doing something for them! Good luck to your future rescues!

ahh thank you both for the kind words. ;A; <3 Even just spreading the word is WONDERFUL because it's really hard for us to advertise ourselves, in between our own lives and actually doing the animal rescue thing. Thank you! <3

I'm leaving a post here so that I'll remember to come back and help out when I get paid. ^_^ I love what you do. The world needs more people like you.

And may I ask who the horse is in your banner? He's beautiful!

[edit] Made a post on my tumblr with an edited version of your post here. Left out the part about forging documents and giving tea/etc. to donators, just in case a) there are idiots that see if and b)you didn't want to donate stuff to people on tumblr, lol.

That's so kind of you, omg! ;A; The horse in the banner is, in fact, Locke himself-- my sister snagged that picture of him and I last summer when we were taking a walk through the back fields of the farm. (He really likes Queen Anne's Lace, clover, and dandelions.) We've given him a good clipping and mane-trim since then, though, so now he looks like this!

I totally understand the student thing; I'm in uni myself, NOT CHEAP. Totally cool if you can't donate, spreading the word is equally cool. <3 (and even if you donated a little less than $20 and you REALLY wanted that tea, uh, I could probably swing that bb.)
