This can be a topic for whatever- discussion, stories, assembling a group, etc- as long as it's about Dungeons & Dragons!

I watched my brother play a session or two when I was little, and even played a 1-player session with him as my DM a few times, but that was a long time ago and I never had any IRL friends to get into it with until recently (and even then, it's just one person). I've been trying to get into 4th edition over the past month or two, but it's a little hard doing so when I don't really have a veteran player to help me out, haha! I don't go to college or anything right now, so I can't find a group that actually does play, and I know about the roll20 site, but I have social anxiety and get worried about webcams and voice and stuff... A text-only one would be ideal, but I can't seem to find one anywhere. Hopefully one day I'll actually get to play with people, because I really like the system and already have several characters made up. ;w;

I play it with my boyfriend and some of his buddies, and once the actual game starts, I have fun. I HATE making the character though. I get confused and flustered, and I wish there was more adventures set where it won't be 5 hours long.

There's a program my husband and I use, called RPTools Suite. We use it to play with friends in another state. It might be worth checking out. :) I don't know much of the coding that goes in to it, because my husband was the DM, but he seemed to figure it out relatively easily.

I love D&D. I've been playing since I was a teenager. I actually met my husband through D&D, and it's the biggest way we get face-to-face social interaction with others. Our favorite edition is 3.5, but we've played 2nd, touched 4th and hated it, and we're looking forward to trying out 5th.

My favorite class in 3.5 is the Warlock, from the Complete Arcane. It's straight-forward, but has lots of fun parts you can throw in once you get the hang of it. I got my longest-living warlock to level 30.

Huge TTRPG fan here so hello and welcome!!

I play most my games on Roll20 and you don't have to use webcam and mic, there's an option to switch it of. If you want text only you could use it for that. It has a chat box inside each game session (like your tabletop) you can type in character stuff in as well as roll dice in that chatbox. I <3 Roll20 myself.

I prefer 3.5e in terms of D&D. Also if you want something to ease you in to TTRPG I suggest Dungeon World. It's like a more friendly version of D&D. :D Very good for getting into TTRPG again (I know because that's what I did :P),.

Cool! My group is actually playing 5th ed. right now, an it's great! Very intuitive, character creation is a snap. It feels a lot like 2nd or 3.5 ed. but skills are addressed better (not just thrown out) and gnomes are a regular race again! The player's handbook has some great information about the cultures of the different races too. It really gives you a good feel on how to RP one.

I get incredibly jealous of D&D players. I've never gotten past creating a character, and I don't have people to play with.

Actually, that's a lie. There are people I can play with, but they're people who I really despise being around. Oops. I'm a student so I'm sure that if I looked hard enough, I could find a group, but talking to people is scary. :|
