'Evening all, having not been on Subeta for a good while, any prior pricing knowledge, from way back when, is now pretty useless. Being English (ie. natively use GBP) doesn't help much either, so bit of a plea for help here.
Additional (useful) but wordy information
Having browsed the boards a bit, pricing varies pretty widely, and as with a lot of online communities, notoriety/lack of it, probably does affect prices. So unsure if that needs to be accounted for, being new to CWs.
Ironically (for someone so awful at pricing), having had designs on being a freelance illustrator at one point, one thing I do actually know, is that underpricing art does no-one any favours. Though at the same time understand this is 'a petsite', therefore a market of its own, and can't be expected to cough up industry standard 'wages'. Anyway, ran across a CW post that piqued my interest, commissioner is now interested in going through with the item. Problem is pricing, neither of us are sure about it. Extrapolating from prices charged by other artists, it seems it could run anywhere from $20-$40? Charges for recolours (user wants at least 2) seem to differ even more wildly in price.

I'd say around $35 - $40; well, on the higher end of the spectrum as the base. (Though personally I'd pay/ask for $40, haha I'm a bit of a high pricer after seeing so many lovely artists underpaying themselves.) And then for recolours, maybe another $5 - $10? If it's just another solid colour, say a solid white or charcoal, then maybe $5, but if it's a more difficult recolour, say having stripes or one colour bleeding into another or something, charge more? Hope I helped. P:
- Sorry for the delayed reply, the advice is much appreciated. Thankfully Subeta does seem a lot more reasonable that some other sites, presumably as more worth is attributed to the design and quality of art. Rather than just 'make me a picture drawing monkey'.
Don't suppose you'd have any suggestions pricing companions? There more what I find entertaining to draw, but there's not as much to base pricing off as clothing, especially when it comes to different sizes etc. Complexity/lack of it is slightly easier to price, so obviously that'd affect it, but it's only one part.
Overlay recolours/edits here (closed to new orders)Haha, yeah. This is the first site where I haven't seen anyone complain about prices. :P
Companions are harder in a sense that you have to have accurate anatomy and keep it in good proportion and lighting with the HA, so I'd say they'd vary from $25-40 for simple companions, like a dog or bird or cat, and $45-50 for complex companions, like an elephant with decorative gear or something. Your style is very detailed, so I'd definitely stay on the high end of the spectrum. Maybe with $3 - $7 for each recolour depending on the complexity? A solid colour would be pretty easy, while stripes or really any pattern, would be on the more expensive side. You could even add the option of changing the items the companion is wearing (like a dog with a collar and one with a scarf, or something more complex like a unicorn that has a rose for a horn, but the recolour could have different flower, say a tulip) with prices ranging from an extra $10 - $25 on the complexity of the item. Something on the high end, going back to that elephant example, could be the gear actually changes, which would require a lot of effort. Of course this starts to get a little pricey, so to attract customers you could have deals (like, buy three recolours, get a fourth free), or have seasonal sales or deals for frequent customers by maybe decreasing the prices by a certain percentage or maybe free recolours. Also, provide a lot of examples, maybe try making your own CWs to get people to know you and your art, or decrease the price to $15 - $20 for something small, like a mouse, rabbit or small bird, $25 - $30 for a medium sized companion, and $40 - $45 for large or detailed companions. Hope this helps! D:
