There's that achievement in the Fireside part of the Achievements section.

AS it doesn't said [2012] or any other past year, I should suppose that this year the achievement can still be gotten.

Does he appear later on or will he never show up again?

I have that doubt...

it's not in my list of unlocked challengers, so it is probably seasonal and will appear later on as the holiday progresses.
