i think what's awkward about adding a pose to the face - is that it looks a bit like a mask rather than an actual face or head. and i think the head is a bit too small [needs some depth added at the top - ish? it's strange.

though i'd probably try kiku's idea with the circle + sketching

Generally with faces, the distance between the eyes and the top of the head is somewhere closer to half the total height of the head, so you need a bit more forehead there. Also, I think the left side needs more depth, since you're looking at the side of the head, so the circle-sketching would probably help there.
