I have issues coding ):
Does anybody know a good site/place for tutorials on coding for CSS and HTML and stuff? (can you tell I'm coding illiterate? XD) I want to design profiles for Subeta, but I feel like kind of stupid just designing them without being able to code them. It's like I'm only doing half the work. So I wanna learn coding too (: Any help is appreciated guys!
(( if this is in the wrong spot, please move ))
Well, I figured it might fit here, since it's sort of coding in general. I'm illiterate in all ways XDDD So if it's in the wrong spot I'm sure someone will move it, I'm used to having stuff in the wrong spot. XD Thank you though! I will check out all four of those and hopefully be a little smarter tomorrow (: I appreciate the help!
Ehh. Im having a hard time deciding where it belongs lol. Ultimately you're looking for help with subeta, so we'll go ahead and move it.
XDD Thanks Natsu. Sorry about that ^_^' I shall refrain from complicated post areas now.
The links have been a LOT of help. I'm tinkering around with some of it and seeing what works best for my style (:
Looking at other people's code is honestly the way I learned most of my code. Some people are nasty about that for some reason, though (really? it's not like you invented the code, come on), so you might want to ask if you're copying large chunks.

Also guilty about this.. ;)
I don't really copy parts... more like, I look at a profile, wonder "How do you do this/that?", look in the coding, and see that "this coding part lets me do this, and that part lets me do that", and use it for future reference.
I think CSS is very simple. The coding works as "subject + modifier", where you separate your subjects with commas (if you have more than one), and your modifiers are in brackets.
All you need to figure out is the name/tags/whatever of your subjects (text? links? a certain div area?) and how you can modify it (color, size, position...)
yeah... I'm not very helpful ^_^;
What I don't get how to do is make the coding your own so you aren't stealing other peoples coding. xD I'd love to make my own profiles but its the coding that stumps me, I kinda get the coding but I just confused on how I'm supposed to make it my own. xD If you rearrange it in your own way isn't it still using their code?
If you're into some hands on toying with code, and if you use Firefox, I recommend downloading the Web Developer add-on. It's brilliant and lets you edit CSS to see what it does without actually changing the coding. So if you see something really cool somewhere on the web and you want to see what code that is, or what it would look like if you changed something, you can. And it doesn't do anything to the actual site because it makes... A parallel dimension type thing where you can just toy with things. I've learned a lot already using it. :)
Ooh, there's an addon? Thank you very much thusly I will definitely look into that!! I like hands on stuff, because it makes me learn faster. (:
Neoaddict: Ripping off the whole coding of someone else's profile isn't very nice.. xD It's best if you took only the relevant parts you need. Like... for example (I'll take this out of my own profile)
{padding:0px; margin:0px;border:0px; position:absolute; left:170px; top: 520px; width: 280px;}
That's the code that modifies (the first column of user profiles). You want to change your own, so you'll take that coding and change it to suit your own needs. (more to the left, higher on the page, wider, narrower, etc)
Like Corgi said, it's not like you or I, or... (trying to remember some profile makers..) kyu or boogleloo invented CSS, so I feel it's alright to snag bits from this profile and bits of another, to learn more yourself.
Although it's another thing entirely if you take the whole coding and say that you came up with it all, when in truth you don't even know what half of it does.
After a while you kinda get the general idea of things so most of the time you can manage things on your own, looking at the default coding and such.
Alright thanks for the explanation. :) It didn't make since to me how people had their "own" coding when its just in a little different way and does the same thing. xD
I installed the web-developer thing and it's pretty cool to mess around with. :) I think this would come in handy to anyone making profiles because you won't have to mess up your own profile while you are trying to find out where things go. :D
I would personally suggest similarly to someone else. I would suggest that you use the view source option on other peoples profiles. Don't take them but look at them and you'll learn the basics. Once you get that you can make profiles like mine on your own. There are more difficult things you can do to but OMG I hate coding ;)
Once you've figured out CSS this thread is great for telling you all the important class names to help you work within subeta's already existing coding. :)

CSS is very easy once you get to know it. It's very simple, and once you learn the basics, the extras are easy to understand. I just figured out how to make hover profiles, and I'm really excited about that. Just two weeks ago I was telling people I'll probably never make hover profiles.
My coding is very simple, clean and basic. I don't like having a LOT of things in it if they don't need to be there. I mainly learned by peeking at people's codes, asking a few profile makers LOTS of questions (I'm shocked they answered every single one, lol), and also posted questions in the Profile and Graphics Discussion forum. I also look at other people's questions and read through the answers other people give.
For me, it was very easy once I got the hang of it, and that didn't take long because on Neopets (sdfgwf!!) I used to make profile, shop, guild, pet profile layouts and pet pages. And I've also done quite a few Myspace layouts, including div layouts. And those are NOT fun to make... lol
But, if you have any questions, don't be scared to post one. :) I'll even give you a hand if you need. ❤
I actually eyed a couple of the custom CSS layouts for Subeta, I'm using one of them so I kind of looked over the coding and figured out 'hey, this does this and that does that'. So I'm kind of getting the hang of it. I wanted to do MySpace but then I decided I'll conquer Subeta first XDDD
All I really want to do on here is make pet profiles, custom CSS for myself and some profile layouts. It seems easy enough and I've gotten some basics down so far soooo let's hope for the best and hope I don't internally kill myself from staying up until 3:30 Am learning CSS when I have work tomorrow at 11 >.>
