I'm looking for stories that are:

  • short
  • scary
  • relatively unknown (not E.A. Poe. It's not scary if everybody knows it, right? ;))
  • and good, it goes without saying! Any suggestions? :)

Erm, I don't really know of any short scary stories, but I'd say almost anything by Stephen King. I think It was a good, Danse Macambre's another one, kujo, etc.

And I wouldn't say it's not scary if everyone knows about it. A good author can make a book scary by having you envision the most horrific scenes just in their writing. Poe's work was more vulgar, if anything.

Sorry, I probably didn't explain myself very well (English is not my first language) :) What I meant is that I won't find a story quite as scary if I already read it and know how it ends. The suspense mostly lies in not knowing what will happen :) That's why I'm looking for authors who aren't famous. I have to read the stories to other people, so it's more likely they won't have read it already if I choose something that isn't a classic - like Poe. Or Stephen King. Which I dislike, anyway, it's not really the writing style I appreciate. Thank you for the suggestion, anyway :)
