Um, before I say anything, if you don’t like snakes, I really don’t want to hear it. I’m asking for help, not your opinion, Okay? Anyway, I’ve had this corn snake for almost a year, and I have never once had problems with feeding her. The breeder who I got her from did not suggest live feeding, so I give her thawed fuzzy mice. (Yes, she is big enough to handle fuzzies, she has been eating them since October.) I feed her every Thursday, and its been a few days since, and she hasn’t eaten. I tried a few times to get her to eat on Thursday, she wouldn’t, I tried once or twice Friday, and once yesterday. She will not eat it. I know snakes can go a while without eating, and can be picky and moody and all that, and I’m probably worrying over nothing, but oh well. I don’t know if I should switch her to live prey, she may have lost interest in pre-killed mice, and she does coil around her mice, even the thawed ones. But anyway, does anyone have any suggestions of what I should do? Right now the mouse is sitting in her tank, (I know I’m not supposed to feed in the enclosure, but I’m waiting to see if she will get hungry and eat it on her own).

Hmm... I'd suggest trying out live prey. Or perhaps freshly dead mice instead of thawed ones? I really don't know what to do beyond that.

Thanks. :] I may try the live prey, but it would be kind of hard to find live fuzzy mice unless I bred them. oxo I'll probably find them somewhere if I look.

Sometimes snakes are shy/picky, so I wouldn't worry too much about it. :) They can go for months without eating a bite to eat. When this happened to my snake, we fed her a warmish pinky and she got back into her eating methods. Maybe you could try it out?

Also, some snakes won't recognize a still prey, so try moving the mouse around a bit with small movements.

I know they can become picky, but like I've said she's been eating thawed mice for months. I always feed her the mice right after they are thawed, they are still very warm, and I do shake it around with the tongs or whatever, which is why she coils around it.

This happened to my brother's ball python Walter. I suggest taking her in if you think it might be something serious, as that is what we had to do with Walter.... Or giving her something smaller. I think getting something live might be good for her too.

Just suggestions, I'm no expert.

There might be companies that ship live mice and you can always look online to try to find a retailer in your area. (Mouse retailer. That sounds a bit odd) If you do feed her live prey, make sure to keep a very close eye on her since the mouse could try to bite her before she gets a chance to bite it (which is probably why the breeder didn't suggest live prey. It can be dangerous but as long as you're careful, shouldn't be a problem)

Also: This just occurred to me, but if she's about to shed she won't want to eat. It's possible that she's about to shed but hasn't "gone blue" yet so you may not be able to tell.

This.

And in response to your reply, I agree with the above suggestions on trying out live prey. Good luck! :)

Nah, she isn't about to shed. She sheded last week, so I don't have to worry about that. Thanks for the help and suggestions everyone. :]

My sand boa is going on 3 months without eating. I took him to the vet and as long as your snake is still strong and moving, they can go 8-10 months without eating. I had him get de wormed by the vet just in case. Snakes go on hibernation sometimes and thats what could be happening with yours. I have tried everything live and thawed and he smells it, puts it in his mouth, then backs away from it. So do not feed live unless you feel like doing it for its lifespan. Good luck.

I would not suggest live prey. If she's not used to actually killing her food, she will most likely be bitten by the mouse (they go for the eyes).

Missing one feeding by a few days usually isn't a big deal. By the way, a good way to make thawed mice tempting is to warm them up a bit before feeding, so the snake thinks it's alive. Some snakes won't eat already dead food.

If you want to feed her live food, buy small goldfish from the pet store and put them in her water bowl. They won't fight back. ^^

i don't know much about snakes, so i definitely wouldn't take the following as advice.

but anyways i heard a story just last week. this snake wouldn't eat, seemed sick, etc. the guy who owned it called a professional, who said to get out of there immediately. apparently, snakes often starve themselves to clear their stomachs when they have their eyes on a, uh, larger meal haha.

good luck, though. by the sounds of what people have said, it doesn't sound like anything serious. (:

No idea if someone has said it (sorry for not reading through this whole post)... Whenever my snake goes without eating it's usually because he's getting ready to shed.

I don't think that would happen with a corn snake, lmao, I don't think they get big enough.
