Do I have Social Issues?

I tend to ignore the presence of my friends/acquaintances like 45% of the time. I feel somewhat insecure to even say hello anymore because I would feel extremely embarrassed if I said hello/waved and have them not react/see my greeting..

Is this a extreme social problem? Or am I being a little bit insecure?

why would anyone not react to someone waving and saying hello?

Well when I say hello or wave, im very quiet about it. And I am one of those people who if we dont make eye contact I definitely won't say hi, its starting to affect the way see me and how I see others.

I really don't like what I do but I can't help it.

i think you are aware of your issues... and i think you know how to overcome those issues. a person's character is something that has to be maintained. you can easily work hard to overcome those problems -- before they REALLY make you socially handicapped.

i'm the same way. i read an article in Dear Amy (hate that bitch) today where the person writing in described someone EXACTLY WITH MY MANNERISMS.

Dear Amy suggested the person has assburgers. i'm pretty freaked out about it tbh.

IF YOU FIND OUT WHATS WRONG WITH YOU, let me know.

shatzy I am fully aware of what I do but somehow I have no control of it. Lets say if I look at someone and try to say hi and they dont look back at me, I quickly turn around as if nothing happened. Im trying to figure out how to overcome it without being loud or to seem like im trying too hard..

And veitcaterpillar, what do you mean? your sentence does not make much sense..

EDIT;

I totally know how you feel Dizzy. I feel like a total idiot when I am ignored by accident or even purposely while greeting or even speaking to a friend. I am beginning to lose friends now aswell. I think I am one of those people who should be greeted and not be the one greeting..I dont know its confusing.. :(

It's not extreme, but it may just be some social anxiety disorder. You can talk to a doctor that will help you out.

I was diagnosed with it and a couple other things when I was 16, and medicine and therapy really does help. :) Just take it easy, and don't overthink it.

Social Anxiety Disorder? Is there a way to get rid of it without medication? :(

For me, I was on medication for it and I had therapy, but I had to stop taking my medicine and it just seemed to improve on its own.

I think making good friends helped, and taking a creative drama class that got me to act silly and not care what people think of me. Part of it is just being young. Just relax, and you'll be fine. :)

thank you tsarevna, :). Although would it be a good idea to inform my friends that I have this disorder? like a little warning so that they know im not purposely ignoring them but just too afraid of looking a fool? sorry for the long question..

I don't mind. :)

I don't know, I'm not a psychology or a psychiatrist or anything like that so I can't say for sure that you do or don't have anything, I'm just going by my own experiences.

It depends, if you think it would make you feel better to talk to them about it, then I say do it. Sometimes talking about it is a step towards opening up and feeling more comfortable around them.

thing is, there is no right way to go about it. i also think that learning is part of the process. trial and error and all that. ^_^

Yup.

It seems like a kind of daunting idea to go see a psychologist or a psychiatrist, but they're usually pretty understanding and helpful.

I have friends who are psychology majors that got interested in it by seeing a psychologist themselves, so it's nothing to be ashamed of at all.

Thanks again Tsar and yeah that would be the professional thing to do shatzy & tsar. I'll try to be more confident in myself, try to say hello up close and not so far away. Although it'll be tough, Ill try my best to get rid of this anxiety. :)

I can't be a Tsar, I'm a girl! hehe.

Just hang in there. :) Trust me, I know from personal experience that it can get better, you just have to trust that it will, and if you need help from someone else, then that's unavoidable.

hehe, a tsar (Czar, but I use Tsar because C in cyrllics is an S sound) is like a russian king, the tsaritsa is..well was his wife so a tsarevna would be the daughter of a tsar and a tsaritsa.

And believeee me you're not. I had anxiety disorder, social anxiety disorder, and major depression. not a fun time. =p

awww, thank you. :)

me tooo. I was doing a lot of bad things to my body, one time it was almost enough to end my life, and for a while I was really upset about it, but honestly, it's what brought me to where I am today, and most of all what inspired me to be a nurse and to pass on the gift they gave to me. :)
