Asking for art that was commissioned, but not yet paid for. It always seems like I'll commission someone, they'll agree to do the work, and then I never see my art/graphics. But yet I have the sP on hold and can't use it for anything else.
I always feel like commenting and going "hey, remember me?", but don't want to sound bitchy or impatient. What's a good rule of thumb, in your opinion, to wait for art to be drawn/graphics to be made?
I usually have a waiting period of a month max, if I hear nothing for a month -and if they are not completing any of their other commissions- I get the idea that I probably won't be getting the art.
For me takes pretty long to do graphics, cause I'm too lazy/don't have time, but it really sounds annoying when people comment me: "is it gonna take long to do graphics?" And cause I don't take sP before I finish my request, I find it more annoying. -_-
I think you should wait a week or so, then see if that person has been recently online and if he/she has, then comment. I don't think you should worry, though.
I usually give people pokes once in a while to remind them that they haven't paid me yet. xD But I say it nicely, of course. ^-^
nods I've contacted a couple people. No replies as of yet.
I've dropped a few commissions due to stress and business irl. I feel like a bitch, but w/e, it was for the best.
If they are really serious about taking commissions, then they should have given you an estimated time of how long it will take them. They should also remain in contact with you, in case you want changes or something.
My advice - insist on these things up front, or look for a more professional, reliable artist. I'd give it a week, then contact them saying that they have lost a customer due to them being a lazy ass. If they can't be bothered to do your art on time, then they should not have been taking commissions. There are plenty of eager artists out there.
Yeah, can you tell this has happened to me before? A lazy artist once made me wait FIVE months before I decided that I'd had enough.
IMO asking for an update on your commission status is only annoying if it's done over and over, or if you've only been waiting a week or so.
As long as you're civil, and make it clear you're not pressuring the artist, i see no harm in asking for an update.
Mm, I'd say wait at least a week to ask. But like, I wouldn't mind being asked at any time, it's not exactly a lot of hassle to reply to a question like that.
Also, check for recent posts and such to see if the person is actually active. If they haven't been on for over a week since you commissioned them, you might want to consider spending the money if they don't reply to your comment soon/at all.
Haha. I'ev been the artist in that situation a few times. Although usually I'll send them a message if for some reason I can't finish the art, but otherwise I think after about two or three weeks with no contact it's safe to assume the art isn't going to be done, and you could spend the money.
I'll give them a month. If you really wanted my money, I'd have heard something.
If you do spend the sp, please notify them. I've had someone spend the sp and when I gave them their profile they didn't have the sp to pay me. I was kinda pissed cause then it was just a waste of my time. They got frozen before they could pay me.
So yeah, if you plan on spending the sp, let them know you're cancelling the comission or something.
I say after one week asking for an update isn't a big deal. Personally, I would wait two weeks. It's not really rude to ask for an update... technically you're their employer :P
