Basically my friend (he's 18) had a seizure on Friday when he was watching a movie and he went to hospital and they couldn't figure out why it happened. This is the first time it's ever happened to him and I'm a bit worried as they can't diagnose it. Does anyone know what it could be due to if it isn't epilepsy? Thankies!
That's hard...if the hospital staff couldn't figure it out, I'm not sure anybody on Subeta could. o_o
Agreed with Spring. Doctors > general subeta population when it comes to stuff like this lol. Sorry to hear about your friend though /: Maybe encourage him to call into the doctor's office (if he's not still there) to see if they have any suggestions as to what it could have been.
If not, there's always Google ?
Yeah I suppose you guys are right, and yes I have tried Google. Thanks anyway!
It could be due to any flashing lights he saw on the television. Though, I'm sure the doctors have gone over that scenario, it's a pretty common cause of seizures. Like, there was this one episode of Pokemon I heard that had a big red/blue flashing & it was causing loads of kids in Japan to have seizures when they were watching. Well, that's what I heard anyway..
Sometimes seizures occur idiotically, which means there isn't a reason behind it. Doctors can't find a reason for it. The brain is still a very gray area in medicine today, and doctors don't know why all goes on in it. Hopefully it was just an idiotic seizure and nothing else
i've heard there are types of seizures that can happen based on age, but that people sort of grow out of them.
basically I'd just keep an eye on the friend, make sure you take a first aid course so you know exactly what to do if it happens again and watch for what might have induced it.
it can be difficult for doctors to figure out the exact causes of some things, because people can be ashamed or worried to tell the doc everything going on in their life, even if that could be the direct cause of the seizure.
For sure, have him have the doctors take a closer look just to be safe, and perhaps get a second opinion. If it doesn't happen again, it may be an isolated incident and may not be serious.
My friend had a blackout last summer and she went to four different doctors, none of whom could figure out why she would suddenly collapse and lose her vision and consciousness for a few moments. It hasn't happened since, however, and she's doing just fine.
The brain isn't something we totally understand, so it may just be nothing, but safest bet it to get a second opinion, just in case.
my mum had a couple of seizures a few years ago when she was under a great deal of stress...the doctors couldn't find any physical reason for them either and she's not had a single seizure since...
sometimes these things just happen...it's always good to be prepared tho...i took a first aid course just in case so that i could help her if they ever happened again...a first aid course is always a useful thing to have under your belt at the best of times... :)
