So, my boyfriend asked me to be his date at his brother's wedding.

I don't know what to wear. I mean, I have an idea. I obviously should wear a nice dress of some sort. I'm just not completely sure what kind of style it should be. I've only been to one wedding in my life and it was kinda just a last-minute ceremony that the couple decided to do on a whim, so what people wore didn't matter.

I kinda need to figure this out by this weekend because I'm going home and will actually have a chance to go shopping.

Any suggestions?

business casual and age-appropriate is always a good, safe choice.

nothing loud or revealing (even overly sheer or semi-revealing) obviously. i always try to imagine something you'd wear to a church or graduation.

In my opinion, it really depends on whether the wedding is indoors or outdoors and what the weather's like. Generally speaking, I've worn cocktail-style dresses to the weddings I've been to. Nothing too fancy, but simple and sweet (and not white whatever you do), knee length or a little longer. Heels or embellished flats of some sort.

If it's outdoors and the weather is alright and the wedding invitation didn't call for something black tie, it'd be alright to wear some sort of summery dress and fancyish sandals - not flip flops, sandals. And yeah, don't wear white!

Depending on your taste, anything summery and perhaps floral is usually a safe bet. I wouldn't worry about hats or fascinators or anything like that :)

I went to a boyfriend's brother's wedding once, and I just wore a nice light blue blouse and some black dress pants. You don't necessarily have to wear a dress. Maybe you could think about matching the colors at the wedding... or just find anything nice to wear. Skirts, dresses, and dress pants are nice... the first and latter with a nice blouse or fancy shirt.

To give the best advice we would actually need to know the type of wedding, and in some cases where the wedding is going to be held (not the actual place, but if it was one of those beach weddings we would need to know because at the request of the bride they tend to allow a different wardrobe).

If it is a wedding in a chapel, than you could get away with business casual.

If it is an outdoor wedding you want to go with clothes that are in the season (technically it is spring right now even though the heat keeps feeling like summer, depending on what her bridesmaids are wearing you could be able to get away with summer colors.... but that is really a personal call.)

A dress would be easier to piece together for an outdoor even, instead of trying to find a skirt and top that would go (especially considering than you have to take account the length of the skirt).

Ask what colors they have. Someone came to my wedding in a red dress and I was PISSED! Totally ruined the photo scheme I had going- they clashed out as the rest of us were wearing white and blue.

Wear something modest and business chic like. No white dress, no black dress.

Well, I asked my boyfriend what type of thing I should wear. He told me what I was wearing yesterday was perfect.

I was wearing an white button-up blouse with this over it and a pair of black dress pants. It'd be nice it be able to wear it, but I'm not sure...

I have the same issue. I talked to my boyfriend, and I may be asking his parents soon. (I have to wear a nice dress of some sort D: I don't like that idea)

Talk to the boyfriends parents, and ask what is an appropriate choice. I think the outfit you described sounds nice though. I love that shirt! (May I ask where its from?)

I would ask his parents, but to tell you the truth, this wedding is the first time I'll be meeting them. I'm kinda afraid of what they'll think of me because I may seem strange to them because I'm really shy and from what I've heard, they're really outgoing. It's a scary situation for me because the parents of my past boyfriends never liked me at all and I don't want it to be that way again because it only makes the relationship harder. But yea, I'm rambling.

I got the shirt from Hot Topic a few years ago. I'm just now being able to fit in it XD

Hm, I am an outgoing person.
Make sure you introduce yourself (I know that is the scary part) and shake their hand/smile or something. If it is obvious you are a shy person (Which is seems it may be) they won't think you are weird. Just if they start conversations try to look at them when you answer, even if you get nervous. Its hard, but it's probably the best think you can do if you are that shy.
