Hm...You like Classics, right?

Try Dickens...any should do fine. Also, there is the original Phantom of the Opera (the book, not the musical...there is a BIG difference), as well as H.G. Well's "War of the Worlds."

I personally like Margaret Atwood's "The Handmaid's Tale," but I bet you it's an aquired taste. It's more distopian, like 1984, but less....Big Brother-ish and more feminist and religion (anti-religion, more like it) based.

For fiction, I have to say...if you like Harry Potter, you should like Narnia. I will also throw in Katherine Dunn's "Geek Love," just because it's a really good book, if you pay attention. A bit disturbing, but still awesome.

And that's all I can think of at the moment. Hope that helped!

Fiction, fantasy, mystery, action I would definately recommend ALL of Tamora Pierce's books. She is a wonderful author and has very imaginative stories. I am in love with her books and I own every single one. I've read each series(there are more than 5) more than once because they are so involved that it's hard to get bored.

Some before mentioned books: House of Night, Twilight

More sci-fi: Uglies, Pretties, Specials, Extras by Scott Westerfeld

I'd suggest a series called Skulduggery Pleasant by Derek Landy. The books are very entertaining, full of action and a lot of fun; I got sucked into the story immediately after I started reading them.

Artemis Fowl is a good read, although most people have already read it. Classics are always good to read anytime. If you want a gripping book, I'd suggest The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini. It's very emotional though.

Check out The Dresden Files series, it&;s also about wizards and their culture/politics. It&;s a bit more adult (sexuality, violence, swearing) so if that isn&;t your bag I wouldn&;t suggest it. There are currently 11 books in the series and the ongoing story is extremely compelling. The main character is also extremely likable.
I second that opinion.

You might also want to try the Abhorsen series or the Magister series.

Mmm, I'm not big on the fiction scene, but I really enjoy Kurt Vonnegut, Jr.'s stuff.

I second the His Dark Material Series. :D

And also, the Inkheart trilogy by Cornelia Funke. They are very good, in my opinion. ^-^

I suggest Tamora Pierce's books. she has, um... lets see.... 28 books and some short stories. I would start with her first book called Alanna: The First Adventure. If you like fantasy and fiction she is great. Alanna wants to be a knight and her twin Thom wants to be a sorcerer. Alanna goes to the palace dressed as a boy nad has to over come lots,oh and she is afraid of her own Gift. It is a really great series. I have read the books so many times that I have memorized most of the books:)

The Looking Glass Wars by Frank Beddor (I believe that's his first name)

The novel is and excellent spin-off of the original Alice in Wonderland. I think it is greatly written, suspensfull, and all around amazing. There's the evil Aunt Redd who decapitates people, little innocent Alyss lost in the real world, and catepillers that smoke hookahs and predict the future. The book itself is very fantastical, interesting, and wants you to read more.

There is website specifically set for the the novel, www.lookingglasswars.com, and features art, music specifically meant for it, and quite possibly a movie. I highly recommend it. You might find it to be quite enjoyable ;)
