I don't understand why people care what she thinks about anything. Honestly...who gives a shit? Why is she getting so much attention?

I had a low opinion of her from when she was asked this question and people started bashing Perez Hilton over being an asshole about it and ensuring she 'lost'. He was immature about it, yeah, but I thought she was in the wrong for someone like that to even be in one of those bloody competitions if she's someone that represents the country in any way - even if it's as pointlessly idiotic as a beauty pageant.

So now that I get to see this little interview with her, it just leaves me facepalming in disgust that she lives in one of the gayest filled states, and thinks that way.

Exactly. There's NO way you could even prove that people are "born gay". I mean, I'm "atypical" myself, being asexual (though straight-romantic) -- but I wasn't born that way. Children are a blank slate - they develop into what they are. I didn't CHOOSE to be asexual (after all, that would make me celibate, not asexual), but I wasn't born this way. I came to BE this way. :)

There's no real differentiable neurology that denotes "gayness" - thus it's impossible to determine whether one is born gay. Entirely impossible. Maybe some psychologists think it's possible - but I don't consider psychology an unflappable science - nobody uses Freud's methods anymore, am I right?

She did NOT say people choose to be gay. She simply said people are not born gay. It's not a black/white thing.

Makes me wonder what would have happened if Miss Utah of last year ("GI Jill" Stevens) - she wouldn't wear a tank top (or a bikini) last year because of her beliefs - I wonder how she would respond to this question.

I also am very leery of her being written off as a "dumb bitch" (courtesy of Perez Hilton) simply because she has a different viewpoint on the matter. My parents don't like the idea of homosexual marriage - but they're some of the most intellectual people I know.

1. regardless of if it's a life choice or a birth thing, we are above judging by such things as religion and skin color so why shouldn't this be the same thing?

2. if you are going to display your beliefs in front of so many people judging your every move, the least you could do is do your research so you don't make yourself look like a fool...
