I've recently got back into reading comics, such as 52, Uncanny X-men, Tank Girl, etc..., and I realized that there doesn't seem to be much talk about comicbooks anymore except for the movies. So I was wondering if anybody out there actually reads them anymore? If so what ones? Do you feel Anime and Manga has replaced them? Are we just reading them online now? Do you still have a comic book store in your town? (Last question is because ours closed)
Yeah, I believe anime and manga have replaced these comics because really, manga is becoming much more popular than the good old American comics. Seeing as I'm a huge manga addict. :| Aaand, yeah, I think webcomics > comics now because well, I think they're much more humorous and less restrained? Honestly, I think the Marvel comics were alllll juust about superheroes and I'm not into superheroes and superpowers and all that jazz. :/
Don't have a comic book store in my town.
However, I do read comics on newspaper sometimes. :)
I think Manga is replacing comics as well, but I'm still a huge Comic Book Nerd. -coughs- I have so many in my room..... x: But my favorites are; -The Marquis -Watchmen -Conan the Barbarian -V for Vendetta -The Trap-Door maker -Wolfskin -300 -Pastush -Troy
The Comic Book stores around here are thriving since they cater to both Anime and Comic Book fans by selling both and keeping everyone happy. B:
The only ones I pick up are the Sonic ones about trying to fight the Eggman Empire (Gosh, which part of the series ISN'T about that?) with all the old gang from the Freedom Fighters.
: Yes Marvel is mostly about superheros and such (however Punisher has no superpowers to my knowledge), but there are actually tons of other american comic books that don't deal with all that. Also I'm more referring to action comics then comedy.
I guess that is why our comic book store closed; the guy refused to stock manga xP Also your list makes me happy, you have great tastes and I've been meaning to check out Marquis forever. :)
The comic book industry has been failing for years, I find most hardcore collectors and readers to be something of a tight community.
I collect; Deadpool Some Wolverines 52 Nightwing She Hulk Robin Superman and Batman
I don't own a lot of comics, but borrow a lot from libraries. Honestly I prefer Western comics to anime/manga stuff. >_> Mostly read Deadpool, Batman, Blue Beetle and few other I can't think of... Those are the ones I follow at least. Really like Sandman and the Flight collections, too.
If I had the money to buy them, I would. Unfortunately, my geckos ate a hole in my pocket.
Hoarding:
2986/??? (turns out I haven't updated in a while. Whoops!)
Thank you anon ;_; x10 March 4/21/21 (RIP Storm-buddy the leopard gecko- you lived a great 16.5 years.)
Anime and Manga ARE comic books, actually. They are just a very, very different breed.
I personally never enjoyed Marvel or DC, but I know a couple friends who do.
we have to drive a half an hour to get to the comic store and have a regular pull that includes:
Castle Waiting Usagi Yojimbo Fables PS 231 Jack of Fables
It's a pretty funny series. Sort of like Zim with an angry vampire trapped in the body of a stuffy. And Mr. Gosh..... D8 No one loves him.
I wish you luck with finding Marquis anywhere. I was lucky enough to be able to pick up the copies I have for a steal at a second-hand store. When I bought another book of the Marquis because it had a bit about De Massard and a little extra in the back it cost about.... 50$ for one book but it was worth it. The storyline is amazing, right up there with the first Watchmen book.
The second.... just don't. Apparently, Rorschach comes back like John. I couldn't read it, it was too..... blah.
I love comics :3
One shots especially, not a whole series of issues. Tank Girl, Cable and Deadpool, and The Walking Dead are my favorites.
Moving this to the literature forum. :]
I really wanna start reading comics, but I'm not too sure where to find them. =|
Do they stock them at Chapters?
Wow, 50 dollars? O.o It might take me longer to get it, but I will take your word for it and try. Lenore is great, I've a read few of them but I was spending all my money on JtHM at the time so I never really got into them that much.
They sell some in the bigger Chapters, but not many. I usually see them near the magazine section. Sometimes you can find volumes of certain series of comics on their website, but you might as well just buy them off amazon because they are usually cheaper and have more in stock. The best place to buy comics though, is at a local comic book store if you have one. They will have a better selection and don't get as confused when you want to order a certain issue in.
I read quite a few. ;) Although I am a long-time anime/manga fan, I do think it has replaced western comics, and, sadly, all the manga series that have replaced them are...well...crap. xD
My faves:
Edited because I am super dumb and forgot to put The Darkness on there. xD
I may have to steal your comic book collection one day; it sounds so awesome. And lmao at the penis thing, is there is a reason they don't wear pants? Luckily my siblings are older then me, but I have had some bad experiences with young cousins and permanent markers. (Let's just say Gambit does not look better with a curled mustache and large eyelashes, Wolverine however...)
I miss the days of 25 cent comics ):
Welll....manga saw me through my angsty little teenager phase quite well so after that I pretty much migrated over to Western Comics (although I do occasionally dabble back into manga every once in a while). And I usually read a lot of different comics most of the time, but my favorite comm over at LJ (scans_daily) was shut down earlier this year (which means I don't get notified about new and interesting comics that have come out).
