i have been stressing about my maths exam for the last 3 weeks because i know i always freeze up, especially with maths so anyway i done the exam today and half way though i got confused, and what do i do when i get confused? i doodle, so i drew a lot of stars on the blank side of the page (not on my work) anyway i finished the paper but then had 30mins with NOTHING to do but sit, so i looked over my paper 5 or 6 time and was bored stiff, so in tiny witting in the corner of the page i wrote 'im bored' that was it then after the exam later on in the day one of the maths teachers (not even my maths teacher, this man has always had a grudge against me, the one time he taught me he told me off for being to far a head) came in to my class and took me out and started screaming at me teacher: you know what im going to say don't you me : ummm teacher:what was this, you protesting or some thing like that me: what the stars? Teacher: yes the stars and the little comment me: oh sorry i was just really bored it wasn't directed at any one teacher: well Hannah if your bored you check over your paper me : um i did, and i had 30mins left teacher:well you obviously didn't other wise why did you get some of the questions wrong? me:i don't know sorry teacher: -starts ranting on about how i had no right to doodle on my exam paper- me: yeah im sorry won't happen again
i know i shouldn't of drawn on the paper but he didn't have to shout at me, and the 'why did i still get some wrong is because i didn't know how to do them :(
anyway that wasn't what upset me the most, it was the fact mum had been making this huge fuss about how these exams aren't too important until next year and stuff like that until i get in the car and explain what happened, she started telling me off about how i'l fail all my exam if i do that and how i shouldn't of done anything, but it's all because she like''s the teacher that told me off about it, she wouldn't of cared less otherwise in fact yesterday i told her there was a blank page on my biology exam so i doodle on it and she just laughed, but because that certain teacher told me off about it im in the wrong, it really upset, it's also because my mums a maths genius (im not joking she is) she expects me to do just as well as she did, and i've tried so many times that ijust can't do maths, i've never been 'amazing' at it, i've told her i want to focus on science because im so much better at that and she doesn't listen
can any help me get through to her about how i doodle when im stressed and im stressed because im expected to do amazingly in maths which i can't do, and all i needed was for her to say 'yes the teacher over reacted a little' that was it, just some kind of support
My mom is qualified to be an accountant and maths teacher, and I'm useless in regards to maths, so I can kinda identify :P
Although, unless I get a really EXTREMELY bad mark (D or something) she doesn't really yell at me, just does the 'you could have done better...' thing, which in a way is worse than yelling! Does yours ever do that?
Your mom sounds like she is concerned about what teachers think of you, rather than the result you get, which is quite strange. Maybe she doesn't want you getting detention? I'm not very good at comforting people ^^;
Well if she does so well in math, have her tutor you. Seriously. c: And with the teacher thing, im sure she just doent want you to have any bad marks for later on in life. Of course what that teacher did was a bit over dramatic, and my mom probably would have yelled at him for yelling at me xD
OH AND yeah, im terrible in math too -.-

Heh. My father has tons of physical skills and has like collections of medals.
i fail at physical education, and i feel so bad when my father looks at my grades. i'm sure there in the deep he feels very disappointed. ;__;
My mum is the same, it sucks :( I'm sure she just wants what's best for you and not have your future ruined by doodling of all things, haha. Not saying that it will, but parents WILL overreact if they get the chance :P
Maybe you could ask for a separate sheet of paper when you're doing the exam, to doodle on? I do the same and constantly keep a scribble sheet next to me or I'll mess up something important :x
hope you feel better soon <3
THEY CAN'T BREAK YOU IF YOU DON'T HAVE A SPINE
thanks :D im just really embarrassed about going back to school now im going to make sure i have extra paper next time, because if i don't doodle on paper i doodle on my hand, then the teachers tell me off for that to XD
XD then why did i get in trouble? thats just un fair XD
I would've looked at my mom and been like, "I can't fail my exams for doodling on them. They would have to fail SO many people if I could."
And my response to the teacher would have been a lot less polite:
teacher: you know what im going to say don't you me : Pfft, no. teacher:what was this, you protesting or some thing like that me: You'd know if I was protesting, because I'd say it to your face.
skips over stuff because it wouldn't have been the same
teacher:well you obviously didn't other wise why did you get some of the questions wrong? me: You can't say I didn't, as you aren't me, you know. under breath dumbass normal voice And because I'm not that great at math, obviously. If I don't know how to do the problem, you can't expect me to get the question right the second time. pointed look Even if I checked it over twenty times it wouldn't make a difference.
teacher: -starts ranting on about how i had no right to doodle on my exam paper- me: rolling eyes Whatever. And all the other people who doodle on their exams are what, exempt? The only reason you're yelling at me is because you don't like me, and I'll tell anyone who asks the same thing.
(Yeah, dumb teachers really got it from me in school. I had a problem respecting people who had issues with me, or were being idiots about things. Didn't really matter if they were my teacher or not).
i would of said some thing else if i wasn't in shock XD i had no idea what i'd done wrong
everything you said is EXACTLY what i do XD that was the first time I'd ever been in trouble for doodling :( teachers always ask if im finnished, then tell me to check it over, which i do, change an answer, then get it wrong because my first answer was right XD
Hurhur my gr7 math teacher sat me down one class gave me a bottle of white out and made me use the whole thing to white out ALL the doodles in my notebook. Total douche idk I think alot fo stuff teachers make you do is BS, but then again i've always been the rebel. Don't let it get you down though, eventually you will break freeeeeee from their iron grip, in the meanwhile you can either be quiet and obey, or raise a shitstorm, your choice really. But the important part to remember is that this does end and you won't have to deal with it forever.
I can relate on the math level though, my Mum's got a degree in accounting and teaching, my Dad's an IT guy, and i'm the random art child (note no ancestors or any family have any inkling of artistic talent in our blood) soo i'm kind of the black sheep that always disappointed, haha they didn't even expect me to graduate high school.

Did you draw on the main part of the page, or in the margins? The margins don't even get scanned when the examiners mark them (I'm assuming you mean some form of actual exam rather than just an unimportant test, here, btw) so doodling in them shouldn't be a problem at all, since no one of importance will see it. I'd stick to stars and stuff next time, though, because writing "I'm bored" could have been classed as communicating with a classmate (i.e. passing notes).
Also, I ALWAYS used to doodle on the back of my Biology paper when we were doing mock exams :P about 20 minutes before the end of the exam, you could look around the class and see everyone doodling xD good times :'D
Uhh, try NOT doodling on your EXAM. An EXAM is a very important thing.
If anything do equations, not doodles....
I'm like you Good at Science, not Math. Except my mom isn't a math whiz... But, I don't know what to tell you, because you can't reverse time, so there is not much you can do.. All I can say is, don't doodle, bring a book instead, so you can read it in your spare time. That way you'll be educated at the same time. Reading isn't a crime, so nobody can tell you otherwise. Not saying doodling IS a crime, just saying that you're more likely to get yelled at for doodling than reading. If that made sense.
umm when your finished the exam and have been for half an hour you can't exactly do equations, and i know there important, but i wasn't doodling OVER the work, it was all at the side, a quiet word would of been enough rather than taking me out of another class to shout at me for 10 mins
