According to my friends, that is.

To make a long story short...

I used to be in public school. From 3rd Grade to 8th Grade. After I graduated middle school, my parents sent me (and my little brother, just starting middle school) to the local private Christian school, even though we aren't Christian at all. My mom and I are total atheists, but we aren't public about it. My dad was raised Catholic, but he doesn't go to church ever, or do anything religious at all. My brother seems to have somewhat made a transition to Christianity though, after a year at this school, but it may just be an act at school.

Anyway, I wasn't used to private school, or religious private school at that, at the beginning of the year. Luckily, a couple of my middle school friends switched to this school for high school as well. I also made a few quick friends, one being new as well, the others having gone here since 6th or 7th grade. Not many kids had the same interests as I did though, unlike at the public MS, where I was part of a huge group of friends who all like art, anime, classic rock, and video games (I'm a dorky girl, what can I say? :P)

Moving on. The school year is almost over, exams are on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday this week. One of my friends who I've only been close friends with for a few months now just informed me that I publicly make an idiot of myself every day at school, and people are always making fun of me behind my back. I don't know how I could possibly act like an idiot every day; usually I'm just the quiet kid who sits at the back of the classroom and reads/draws/does her classwork all class and doesn't join in the humiliation of a fellow classmate and things like that. She said that I, and I quote, 'Run around talking about Neopets, American Idol (and specifically Adam Lambert) and other dorky things all day.'

I don't know about you, but THAT pissed me off. I DO NOT talk about Neopets OR Subeta around people I don't know well every day. I DO NOT run around screaming about Adam Lambert and his amazing talent every day. And furthermore, I DO NOT RUN AROUND SHOUTING ANYTHING THAT WOULD MAKE ME SEEM EVEN SOMEWHAT OF A NERD/GEEK/DORK. EVER.

So, how the hell should I respond to my friend who doesn't seem like much of a friend anymore? Personally, I'd like to claw her face off.

Hand her over to Viacom. That'll fix 'er right up. :)

Like you said, she's not really a friend anymore. Keep her around to amuse you if you like, but don't let your guard down anymore.

I kept a really toxic friend around myself for a long time, and still let her get to me, and it wasted literally years of my social life. Once I saw her for what she was, I learned how to distance myself from her awful comments. I stopped falling into her traps and she eventually lost interest in the friendship, so I was able to end it "amicably".

Wait, what? Viacom scares me. XD I'm not handing her over to them, that'd be OVERKILL. Majorly. :P

But, yeah, I guess I can distance myself from her. Thing is, she and one of my other friends and I were gonna go see the new Terminator after school on Friday. :o

Stop caring. If you don't make an ass of yourself, that's fine. If you do, that's fine as well. Nothing wrong with it.

Show them who's boss. :)

I'd be honest with her tell her bluntly that if that's really how she feels, and that you don't need to be around her anymore. I wouldn't be around her, I'd give her the cold shoulder like nobody's business.

She's just being a bitch and she's probably jealous of you. Don't let it get to you, and don't take it personally.

When I say 'distance' I mean mentally. For instance, if your biggest love is American Idol, don't talk about it anymore. It's just going to hurt you when she comes back with some snide comment. Talk about an interest you care about ONLY if you can handle criticism she might say about it.

You can still do stuff with her, she probably has redeeming qualities, just don't let her prey on your personality anymore.

Ahh, okay. So I can talk about my intense love for classic rock? I have freaking t-shirts with almost every 70's and 80's rock band I love emblazoned across the front, so I'm not very private about it. XD

And yes, I will stop paying attention to her remarks. :)

My sister and you would get along perfect. She not only has the t-shirts, she's been to the concerts and has the CDs/vinyl.

Don't pay attention to her comments. Jealousy much? (And like you're a nerd for liking American Idol and Adam <he shoulda won!!> when more people vote for AI than for the president! rolls eyes)

xD Nice point there! She got my 'friend' (not really anymore, after some things he's said) in on it to, and he started dissing Idol and Adam because he's gay. Damn homophobic friend. -.-;

Damn, I wish more of my MS friends went to my school. There's too many preppy people here. And no hot guys whatsoever. They're all either total douche bags, complete nerds, or just plain strange. x)

Let them make fun of you. Who fucking cares. The people who are really your friends won't make fun of you for it and won't care that you do it (if you do) and the people that do care aren't worth your time. Go on acting exactly as you have been, and if they don't like it, sucks to be them. Your 'friend' included.

Dude, I embarrass myself all the time I'm the extremely blond and ditsy nerdy stoner girl. But even so, I don't care. Just go with it. You could be like me, be the nerdy one...I even won Prom Queen this year. So as bad as it sounds, embarrassing yourself isn't always bad. sometimes it gives you something that stands out above other people.

Yeah, I like to be who I am. But if I'm being made fun of behind my back... it bothers me. But in middle school, if someone called me weird, I'd smile and thank them for the complement. Then they'd get all frustrated. x)

Honestly, if people are going to judge you for being yourself and make fun of you for it, screw them. They are the type of people who are there just to bring you down. And those people aren't people who anyone wants to associate themselves with. As bad as it sounds, I'm sometimes one of those people. To where I have made fun of kids plenty of times. But usually its over stupid stuff that if they take offense to it then whatever. Like today for example, I was in Wal-mart and I saw this GROWN MAN walking around the store with I think they must have been shoes, BUT THEY WENT IN BETWEEN HIS TOES. Yea, until I got home he was the topic of conversation. Toe Sock Shoes....of course he's gunna get picked on. But seriously, if you're just being yourself and people are picking on you behind your back and talking smack...don't change and give them the satisfaction of knowing its getting to you. Show them up, do what you do and don't show any signs of it bothering you. Because people are only given so much ammo.

You cant let little stuff like this bother you, I know it is easier said then done. But there are a lot worse things in the Real World that are going to knock you around. If you learn to ignore it, it will bother you a lot less when some ting really bad acutally happens.
