Had to read ASP for sophomore year English a while back. GAH such a dull, dull book that couldn't even be helped by imagining lots of repressed homosexuality between the two main characters. (Yeah, my soph. honors English class was not the most mature bunch of kids...) :P
No, I'm sorry I haven't even heard of those titles before.
I read A Separate Peace in Freshman English. It was so boring! Just one of those weird books that people say is "literature" but that bores you out of your mind. We didn't have the same immaturity problem as Belladonna though... instead, that came along Sophomore year when we read the Kite Runner :/
I remember having to read A Raisin in the Sun back in high school. It was kind of long and drawn out for me. If I remember correctly, it's written in play format so you might get roles in class while you read it, if your teacher does that. I actually liked the film more because it had some parts that were over acted and exceedingly funny.
Ethan Frome was really boring, but pretty quick (which was a relief). Had to read both A Separate Peace and A Raisin in the Sun junior year. ARITS was very interesting and made me think about some of the issues of the time and was pretty good for a play. ASP was on the boring side, but readable if you're not thinking too much about how boring it is... better than a lot of books they could have chosen though.
I've read A Separate Peace and A Raisin in the Sun.
A Raisin in the Sun was really very good. Beneatha is my favorite character. <3
On the other hand, the only way I could get through A Separate Peace was by imagining Robert Sean Leonard in the role of Finny. (We had just watched the movie Dead Poet Society. It wasn't a very hard association to make.)
