how do you access islands 8 and 9? do you have to catch all the Unown first or what?

Islands 8 and 9? ^^ I'm afraid they don't exist, unless you're referring to the island with Deoxys and the island with Lugia and Ho-Oh. I'm afraid you can't access those islands, ever, unless you go out and get yourself an Action Replay and hack for the ferry tickets that take you to those islands. The ferry tickets were given out a couple of years ago at an event called Pokemon Across America, and that was the only legitimate way you could get to those two islands. Sorry about that! :/
