the music i listen to when i want to vomit up some art really is basically a tell for what kinda thing im in the mood for drawing.
when im going for fashion-style arts i put on a playlist of fun shit you dance to, electronic and crazy UNCEUNCEUNCE music. i listen to sexy wiminz while i draw em !
on the other side of the coin, when i draw sweet, cutesy lookin things i am usually bobbin my head to the bubblegum pop sounds of japanese boybands (hi ARASHI ❤️)
so yeah, how about my fellow artists? what kind of role does music have for you as you do worrrrk?
I have to admit I listen to bubbly japanese anime theme songs whenever I want to draw something ultra happy-cute. xD It's kinda embarrassing, and I'll deny it if it's ever brought up again.
To be honest, my iPod is always on shuffle every time I draw. D| Or I just listen to one band at a time. Mostly because I'm too lazy to make a playlist. ;c
Though I find myself listening to sad music lately when I draw depressing things, dance.. music(?) when I draw something a person moving, and the like.
Like.. lets say, Burn it Up by R Kelly for this ugly thing I'm working on.
I always listen to a mixture of techno, rap, and metal. I don't think music influences how I draw, if I want to do that I watch a movie while drawing. The mood of a movie really influences how I draw.

I associate different songs with the personalities of the characters I draw, for the most part.
Say, if the character's a romantic, or suave, or just has a generally smooth feel, I'll put on slow music. Romantic stuff. Ballads and what-not.
... that seems to be as far as it goes though, because now I can't think of any other times I've specifically put on a certain type of music to draw a character. So, I suppose any other time it's a mix of Asian tunes, or stuff from the 80s/90s... and sometimes some of the more modern stuff from the radio.
Wtf.. I'm weird with that .w.
I use to listen to metal, rock and heavy music when I draw chibis, and cute bubble japanese music when I draw thing I don't really feel like drawing (i.e. when I have to do a commision, and I don't get to draw the character)
i actually watch something on the side of the screen while drawing. i dont know why. but im basically half paying attention to it, so i kind of miss a lot and have to rewind, especially when im doing detail work.
thats only if im drawing via computer though. if its traditional work, then i usually listen to whatever relates to what im drawing (like when they kind of share the same... atmosphere? lol). if there really isnt any music that relates to it, then i just listen to whatever i feel like listening to.
but yeah, i feel weird drawing in silence. it feels lonely :c
For me it's usually sad songs. Maybe that's why I never draw for myself any more. I wish I had the interest to draw outside of college and art commissions. le sigh
My playlist consists of Mayday Parade, RED, Skillet and Breaking Benjamin thumbs up
hum... I don't do any playlists, I just shuffle my ipod. I think the most inspiring music for me right now is the dersden dolls' songs, really, they are great ^^
My music never affects what I draw, or the way I draw. Music tends to be independent from art for me, I mainly use it to fill in the quiet, empty void that is my house on a weekend. I pretty much always have my music on when my computer is on though, which would be from 5am to 1am.
I like to sing to it when I draw though.
I draw best when it's silent. :P Even when music is playing, I totally go into trance mode and don't notice it at all.
I only listen to Chinese songs... my ITunes is on shuffle in my cramped list of 500+ songs. xD
I have a tendancy to go drone mode when im drawing- unless im on stickam (webcam and microphone) - then im babbling on talking to my friends and watchers while i draw XD But yes i go drone listening to the same song- or set of songs over and over and over and over again... Usually songs that make me think of the picture im drawing. For my profile picture i just listened to 2 different versions of Fever (Little Willie John and Peggy Lee) and never actually ended up using either for my profile song lol...
I listen to unicorn kid - biscuits on loop for hours while I'm drawing. Or maybe late of the pier and muse.
Lately I've had way too much 80's music and slower songs in my playlist. I hate listening to anything that distracts me from the task at hand, I want background music and sometimes maybe inspiration from the lyrics, not booming, crazy noise that won't let me concentrate with shitty words.
I like listening to shows; recently it's been radio dramas/mystery. CBS Radio Mystery Theater, Ellery Queen, Suspense, Nero Wolfe.
Listening to radio programmes is better than listening to old britcoms because the radio programmes are written to be heard and not seen XD
Right now it's a lot of the Fratelli's Costello Music because that album is amazing and awesome.
But generally I just set my playlist to random and let it go nuts ... unless I'm addicted to one song. Then that goes on repeat for five hours XD
I listen to indie music when I draw...even though I'm a complete classic rock kind of gal. My personal favorite has got to be Bright Eyes or anything by Conor Oberst really. This is for serious art.
For pop/fun/colorful art, mostly pop/electronica. Metric/Lady Gaga/Plastic Bertrand...and other guilty pleasures ;)
I like turtles.
