So I came downstairs this morning and my mom said she had called the vet earlier because there is something wrong with my 14 year old schnauzer. He has been perfectly fine up until this morning.

She said that he woke her up crying at the end of my parents bed. She walked over to him and pet him and told him everything's ok, and went back to lay down, and he kept crying.

When she got up, his head was tilting to one side and he had loss of balance and coordination. He was falling when he was trying to walk, and was deathly afraid to go downstairs.

She carried him downstairs and down the deck stairs to go outside, and he vomited quite a bit.l His balance is a little better now and he can go up and down stairs (he gets a little hesitant beforehand) but his head is still tilted to one side and he still stumbles every once in a while.

We think it is an inner ear infection or a stroke, but we'll have to wait and see what the vet says.

I hope he's ok and we don't have to put him down..

I've had him since I was a year old. He's a good dog.

Sorry to hear that. 14 is old, yah. I had to put my last dog down with 11, because of cardiac insufficiency. It's always a very horrible thing to do.

But I hope it's "just" the ear infection.. it pretty much sounds like that. I'll keep my fingers crossed for your doggy.

I hope your dog is alright and everything turns out to be minor.

It sounds like she has very good owners.

Your dog will be in my thoughts/prayers.

We had to put down my 5 year old dog, Bo, last month. He had bone cancer. It was horrible. And he was so young.

But I really hope your dog is okay!:)

I'm very sorry to hear about your dog. It's always a tense time when pets get ill. Did you find out what was wrong with him? My dog's 14 as well. I'd despair if anything happened to her. But at least it's some concolation to know that when she finally does go she will have lived her life to the full.

Keep us updated, okay?

Aww, I'm so sorry to hear that! As the owner of 3 schnauzers, one of which is 14 years old, I know how great they are. They are such a hoot. I hope he is ok

My 14 year old schnauzer still acts like a puppy. If you were to watch her, you wouldn't know that she was 14
