yeah exactly what it stands! I'm just seventeen so my wisdom teeths haven't erupted yet, but i've read about it, and as far as i see it hurts or something... but i really don't know anything about it and googling it only confused me... so can anyone explain to me what happns when the wisdom teeths erupt? a friend of mine said she was drugged down for days and couldn't feel her face at all, but i think she was exagerating.. still it made my nerves curl up together >. > if it hurts i don't want to go through it -childish-
anyways.. can someone please tell me alittle about that?
First off, people can be born with anywhere from 0 wisdom teeth to 6 or 8 if you're really unlucky, but most people have just the 4. The problem with wisdom teeth is that, way back in our evolution, we needed them to eat raw meat. We started cooking our food and no longer needed giant molars for mashing up raw stuff, so we evolved to have smaller mouths that no longer fit the wisdom teeth. This means that for most people, but not all, that when the wisdom teeth come in, they cause them a great deal of pain and can muck up the other teeth in your mouth as they try and shove up into the back of your jaw where there's no room.
Most people will need their wisdom teeth to be taken out. There's a lot of different ways to get it done, sometimes you have to wait for them to erupt, sometimes they have to be cut out before they even grow in because they're causing too much damage under the gums. I had mine pulled and cut out while I was under sedation, some of them had grown in and some were just below the surface. It didn't really hurt, but then I get migraines and nothing hurts compared to those. There's a lot of swelling and tenderness for the first few days, and that can be frustrating to deal with, but icing your face makes it bearable.
Personally though, I feel 100% better without them. I didn't realize how crowded it was in the back of my head until those suckers had been pulled out.
Ahh, i think i get it! but now i really don't want them to erupt at all.. is it possible to pull them out before they erupt or something?
Maa well thankyou for answering my question <3 i guess it's a very good thing that I'm not thinking about becoming a dentist cause the only think i knew of wisdom teeths was that they erupt when your in your late teens, early twenties xD
Most people have to wait for them to erupt or almost erupt, you're actually better off if they do. It may be painful or uncomfortable as they come in, but it's less pain, less damage and less recovery time to get them removed after they erupt, as opposed to cutting open your gums and digging them out of your jaw.
Mine were erupted or nearly so, so it wasn't a big deal. One of my sisters had a wisdom tooth coming in sideways, as in trying to stick out the side of her mouth, towards the cheek. That one had to be cut and dug out, she had a really unpleasant time recovering from it.
The eruption itself is no worse than it was when your adult teeth came in, the pain and the problems come from the fact that there's no room back there for all your teeth to grow in.
Wait, what is an 'erupting' wisdom tooth?
I wonder, because mine will have to be cut out of my mouth sometime this summer.
i concur with . unless your wisdom teeth are seriously jacked, they aren't that bad when they come in.
my dentist suggested having my wisdom teeth removed merely for hygienic reasons as they make it difficult to brush the back of your mouth/teeth properly.
also, like posted before, my dentist had no trouble removing my upper teeth but said that usually the bottom teeth have to be surgically removed. my dentist took a chance and attempted to manually remove my lower wisdom teeth and he had no trouble, so fortunately i didn't have to have them surgically removed. it is solely up to the discretion of the dentist.
it would be good to discuss these issues with your personal dentist.

clockworthy, 'erupting' is just the breaking of the tooth through the gumline.
