ah i think i understand now.
seems the person has to actually SEE the comment (ie. be online). i just commented several friends offline and the counter didn't go up.
now i've commented a friend online and its up to 1.
Ohhh okay. Also my "have 10 friends" one is grayed out, but yet it was added to my count.
hate to keep posting updates... but i've sent several comments to the same online friend and i only got it counted once. maybe you have to send a comment to different friends while they are online........... confirm?
i also got the 'have 10 friends' achievement...but its blue for me.
Mine is still gray. Weird. Maybe it takes awhile to catch up? I just went to my friends list a few minutes ago.

And yeah, sending multiple comments to an online friend didn't up my counter. Hopefully we'll get some more clarification.
I'm sure it will be figured out before long. I just came by because I have the same problem.

I've been commenting on people but the count isn't going up. It's on 1/5 which is the one that I got the previous achievement with but I've commented on people between then and tonight so I don't understand it :(
