...in French class.
It turns out that my French teacher used to be a dance instructor in her former life, and she has a wide repertoire of dances from throughout Europe. So today, instead of teaching us French, she had us all take off our shoes and learn to dance.
For the waltz, I paired up one of my guy friends and after we learned the basic steps, we started free-forming; basically waltzing randomly about the room and running into other people. It was the best French class I have ever had, rivaled only by the time we made crepes last year.
So anyway, I felt like I should have been wearing I giant ball gown and some elegant jewelry today, so I just made an HA to fill this need. It actually looks like me <3
o: cool.
I can't dance for anything.
Ah I like waltzing ... I'm out of practice though... ahh ballroom dancing. What fun. So elegant to sway about the room. My one downside, my mom taught us some basic dancing when we were little, and since I was older, I learned how to lead... and I 'always' lead now. Makes it hard to dance w/ some partners.
Although it DOES work well b/c I'm teaching my daughter how to dance a bit, too, and I can lead her so she is learning how to follow. Plus I can dip her REALLY well, which she ADORES :D
Thanks to where I live, I also know a basic polka, too..... I like it, actually. hehe
collecting we -have- to learn waltz (and a bunch of other dances too) in middle school AND high school too so I can dance :( don't like it much though prefer swing. I've had to mambo (yes) in front of an audience with a partner with two left feet, horrible horrible horrible.
THEY CAN'T BREAK YOU IF YOU DON'T HAVE A SPINE
AH I am jealous. I've always wanted to learn how to swing dance, but I'm no longer slender enough to be chucked around properly.
collecting I fail at dancing, but that didn't stop me! It was actually pretty cool because my partner and I actually improved by the end of class, learning how to work together, etc. He was leading, and if I was focused enough I could actually sort of anticipate his steps. It was fun.
I hope that we'll be slacking off for the rest of the year, because this was pretty much the best class ever. My teacher is promising that we will waltz some more and maybe learn the electric slide and/or the Thriller dance, so my hopes are high for the remainder of this class.
She taught us a polka too, but it was a really simple one and the music she had was way too fast. It didn't really work out.
I never could get the hang of the electric slide.... but I can Bunnyhop and chicken dance w/ the best of them at weddings :D
collecting Hm I don't remember if we ever linked arms or not when we did it ... But it's still a fun little dance to do. I need to find those. My brother's getting married @ the end of this month and I'm supposed to DJ it. WE MUST BUNNY HOP :D :D
collecting ooh, fun. i've always wanted to learn how to waltz. i wish you could teach me through the internet :(
since only spanish class is available in my school, all we do for fun is make pinatas and stuff. gets kinda boring after a few courses...
Yeah, French class is usually boring. I'm a very enthusiastic learner, so I already know most of the stuff she teaches us :/ I was pleasantly surprised that we had such a cool class yesterday.
Anyway, basic waltzing is pretty easy. I bet you anything a quick look on youtube would help you get started.
