So. Since I've always adored the BR Malticorn pose, but never actually wanted a Malticorn, I decided to do an overlay of my Brain Damage in that pose.

This is what I have so far(well, actually, I have a little more, but I didn't feel like uploading the updated verison xP):

Of course I'm going to add shading and blood and all that fun stuff.

BUT THE PROBLEM I'M HAVING: The tail. AGH THE TAIL. Okay, here's the normal Bloodred Demi:

DO YOU SEE THAT WACKY, UNNATURAL, COMPLICATED END OF THE TAIL?

Yeah. I have NO idea how to do that. I've tried and tried and... ugh. HALP PLZ.

I'm a little confused by what you're asking; but I'll try to help. What I would do is try to lightly sketch out individual hairs just to try to get a feel on how the tip of the tail flows. It'll help make the tail look more natural, and will give you a better grasp on how to shape it.

Hope that helps!

The thing about how that tail is posed is that its not flat as you're trying to convey it. Rather, the tail is curling in towards you, seeing only the side of it.

I did a redline, I just think you had a problem with angle - you drew the demi at an angle but you drew the tail from a side view. This isn't perfect but I hope it helps.

Mmm, thanks. ^^ But the problem I'm having is more of the colouring than the structure(I didn't state that very well, did I? lol).

My suggestion would be to colour the rest of the image first. Cx

Once you figure out the mane/hair, then I think you'll find the tail easier. Just do all of your colouring on a separate layer so you can delete it if you don't like it. Art is all about experimentation so don't be afraid to go out on a limb. C: There's always the undo button too.

Whoops! My bad.

Okay, well, this is how I would look at the coloring;

Your dark red that you've already used is your blood/fur mix. It's darkened because it's IN the fur. The lighter red is the blood ON the fur color, and gravity works with it - knowing that the blood is going to go with the fur down the tail, and when I say down I mean vertically down. How I see it is that your blood color ON the fur NEEDS to be lighter, it's a total different concept/thing/consistancy than the blood in the fur. (;

[edit]

Oh and the color difference obviously doesn't need to be that drastic, it's just to show as an example.
