what do you enjoy writing about? harmless things like jelly and unicorns, or more adult things like sex or drug addiction? maybe you go the extra mile to scare the shit out of your readers, or maybe you like to write heartwarming stories with happy endings?

in my writing, i mix just about everything. satire, horror, romance, and plain old slapstick humor.

i make a point of trying to disgust my readers. i don't write gore - i can't handle that kind of thing myself - but instead i try and attack society's morals. i put a few innocent, well-meaning children in a world full of not so innocent and not so well-meaning adults, leading to tons of very..grotesque events. all sorts of things, both extremely controversial things and ones that people have generally gotten over are present in my work. pedophilia, (mass) suicide, mental illness (the majority of my characters are crazy in the head), homosexuality and religion are examples of the topics i write about.

the purpose of my stories, other than just having fun reading them, is making people question their beliefs. make them ask themselves,'in the end, is it really that big a deal?'

of course, this kind of thing might actually keep any of my stories from being published in fear of offending readers. :( let's hope whatever publisher i choose doesn't care.

anyway, what about you? i want to hear all about your work. ❤️

I like writing about things I feel about at the time mostly. Sometimes dreams, romance, story-themed poems. I haven't written anything new in quite awhile though and that's bugging me since I'm trying to get over some writer's block.

A lot of the things I write about, I feel like I probably shouldn't know so much about. I'm generally not one for happy and fluffy stories anyway - I would much rather read about Patrick Batemen eviscerating people than about Mr. and Mrs. Smith and their 2.5 kids and white picket fence.

Most of my stories contain some sort of mature or controversial subject - drug abuse, especially heroin, is a subject I write about a lot, alongside mental illness, death/murder/suicide, and homosexuality. My older stuff tends to go over the top in description, mostly because I was trying to find my footing with what I was writing about, and also for shock value, to a point. As I've written more and researched more into what I'm writing about, I try and write about the subjects in a slightly less graphic (although I wouldn't say tasteful) light. I tend to use more allusions to the acts, rather than outright description, and I try to present it as a part of life, because that's how my characters see it.

I wouldn't say I'm trying to change the world or make people question themselves with my work - if they do, they do, but it's not my goal. I try to explore the human mindset (a lot of my stories are in the 1st person) and push buttons. I don't try and make people uncomfortable, but it sometimes happens with my subject choices. =)

As far as publishing - there is definitely a market for edgy, questioning writing. It's not a market that's really mentioned in mainstream media, but it is there, and it's fairly large too.

I pretty much like to touch on anything that has interested me ~ after doing research, stories begin to pop in my head and I start to play out the scenes. By heart, I'm a romantic comedy person but I've had tastes in gore, religion, sex, and various other subjects. I never focus on one subject either - I have to have a large mix or I'll get bored and not one to pick up the story again.

As a writer my goal is to envoke emotion - if I've made someone laugh, cry, or even angry I've done my job. I like when people discuss my stories and I'm thrilled when I see/hear people actually quoting lines from my story.

My writing varies greatly. The two atmospheres that I delve into most are Sci-Fi and Fantasy. My Sci-Fi world that I have developed tends to be rather light-hearted full of all sorts of eccentric characters. My fantasy world is more serious. Varying from romance to all sorts of dark endeavors. I'm generally a fetish artist/author. And that means a lot of things. I write about things that aren't particularly common a lot. But what I enjoy doing most is giving all of my characters color and personality. That way they react differently to one another. I like it when the story is so deep that the reader gets caught up in and and gets emotional, because that's what I strive to do. Embed the story in to people's memories for several reasons.

XDD; I write what interests me at the time - which is often a mix of romance and drama, or just plain old drama with random plots. XD I like writing my own interpretations of topics or scenarios, and relaying a lot of emotions, although that I have discovered recently that I can go a bit over the top with that. xD

But definitely the scenarios. XD How I write is odd though - I focus on all of the wrong details. xD;

Can you link me to some more of your writing, Xalia? 8D I'd love to read some of your stuff. xD!

: i'm afraid i don't have a lot to share. :( i have some character drabbles (okay, they're about twice the size of a drabble) posted on my ">dA, but they're pretty old and it's embarrassing for me to reread them.

i am working on my pets' profiles at the moment, though, and the way they are formatted leaves me a nice big space to write more about them. after i get those done, i guess you can read them |D

I mostly write love stories. They're fun. It's fun to fantasize.

I tend to write modern fantasy, although I think I'm becoming more and more interested into writing gritty, dark sci-fi (a bit like Firefly, but darker). Not that I've actually dabbled in that yet, but I find it interesting and I think it'd be fun to write. I like to slip in moments of humour or absurdity into my own writing, mostly because I just write what comes to mind, and I'm not beyond horror, either, although it usually takes a back seat.

I like to write relationships and characters that aren't conventional, as well, simply because I think there's some types that hardly get represented in the media at all.

well, what's wrong with a little destruction?
