All I want to know is how to change the text colour of a link on my profile. The usual [color=****] code doesn't work. :(

Try this, and let me know whether it works.

Just remove the *s and insert in your profile.

Where would I put the text in that code? (It's going in a blank section, to link to my pet's profiles one by one.) And where would I put the code for the link itself?

You could put both the CSS code I gave you and the links in the blank section itself. Only problem, all the other links in your profile will go that colour too. I'm pretty sure I can get around that, give me a second.

Edit: Tried a couple of things that should work, they didn't. Head over to the Web Design forum and ask there? My CSS knowledge is kind of rudimentary, sorry.

It should be a: link, not just a {color: etcccc, etc.
