I have a lot of problem remembering words, specifically adjectives, some of them even common, and I feel that it hinders me. guess what I'm saying is: let's compile lists of words that we seem to forget a lot, or words that you think would be helpful to other writers! Yay!
Note that when I say 'helpful,' it does not mean 'open dictionary.com, look at word of the day and choose the most obscure, inconsequential word I could possibly find.' I guess what I'm saying is, you know, words you'd actually use in a sentence!
PS sry I am taking over the writing forum. :( I'm just suffering from this brutal writer's block and want to fix it. Badly. Maybe, you know, finish something. That would be nice. Maybe I could go as far as to like something.

Don't forget a lot of words (usually) but now I can't remember this. :(
She __ her newspaper out of her bag.
It was something like shook out? Yonked out? Fisted out? Grabbed? >.>
Ugh. ><
:
'She slid'
'She dumped'
'She emptied'
'She lifted'
^^; Any of those, but they all give different images...
I'm not sure on helpful words... I tend to be very random when writing, and I rarely use the same words twice in a paragraph (or more...) since I generally hate repetition when it gets monotonous or trite. I find synonyms to be very helpful... like if I'm talking about something small, I won't just keep saying small... I might say tiny diminutive or miniature depending on HOW small...
Don't know if that's really helpful, but it's what I thought of XD
Thesauruses are a godsend in these situations, after a bit of hunting and some patience you can usually find what you want :)
She retrieved her newspaper out of her bag? She fetched her newspaper out of her bag?

Could it at all be she fished her newspaper out of her bag?

Fetched!
That was the word I was looking for :)
Thank you.
Thesauruses are nice, but some people abuse them. XD
My friend abused it. In his essay. >.>
I just commented, "Wow, that's a lot of vocab words :O"
Because I didn't know what he was talking about. xD
Here are a few of my favorite ones. 'Fallacy' instead of 'lie' or 'mistake'. 'Viridian' 'Exasperated' or 'derisive' instead of 'annoyed' and the like. 'Tentative' instead of 'hesitating'.
I'm at a loss for others at the mo', but I'll be sure to post later on as they come to me.
I always use collocations my favourite is ever-green tree. Also i use a lot of ways of like: gape glance stare, twinkle, glister, etc :D

My favorite word EVER(to use in a sentence, that is) is 'languidly'(lacking in vigor or vitality; slack or slow). It's SO much better than 'lazily' or 'slowly'. Also it always makes me think of Axel from Kingdom Hearts 2. owo
So, yeah, that.
Others...
Sagaciously(having or showing acute mental discernment and keen practical sense), lazuline(having the color of lapis lazuli(either a deep blue or sky blue); great for when you've used 'blue', 'cerulean', and 'azure' one too many times), tenacious(pertinacious, persistent, stubborn, or obstinate), exasperated(irritated or provoked to a high degree; annoyed extremely), despairing( given to despair or hopelessness; my favorite is "with a despairing glance his/her way" or "he/she replied despairingly"), deliberately(carefully weighed or considered; studied; intentional), liberate(to set free, as from imprisonment or bondage)...
I could go on for hours. xD
