I've only bought art once points to forum set And I loved it. :D I think I paid her 3 mil for the flower art. I saw her 'before hand' work, and the forum set is by far better than that.

Anyway, sorry you've run into that problem. :(

If you request a commission from someone and they finish it, you must pay, even if you no longer want it at that point. If you do decide you don't want it, try to let the artist know before they actually finish.

From here.

ish amused that this comes right after another board

Honestly, every picture is going to be different. Artist have different strengths and weaknesses. Their horses aren't going to look like their dragons (if you buy anthro/quad like me). I think if even if it's not the masterpiece you were expecting, as long as it's not a crappy scribble and the artist did try their best, they're owed for their time and effort. Art is hard.

I agree with . And by posting this right after the other board, it makes you look like kind of an ass. Seriously.

The reason they looked different (from what I can see) is that the majority of the examples given were traditionally colored. The one that was requested (and worked damn hard on by the artist) was digitally colored.

Now, if you go to the artist's DeviantART (CLEARLY IN THEIR SIGNATURE, BTW) you can see examples of their digital coloring. Two and two should have been put together by the person commissioning; your fault you didn't actually THINK and CONSIDER it wouldn't look like the traditional art. Suck it up and pay the amount that was agreed on.

Your friend is basically an idiot.

They requested a product the provider was not strong with (ie: digital), and agreed to a price. It's a shame that she doesn't like what she got, but she probably should have used her brain at some point during the transaction.

Pay the lady.

I've commissioned like 600 million pieces of art and its only happened to me twice so I cant complain too bad...but I know how you feel...I hoard sP and cant bare to part with it for work I think is sub par..

I have gotten stuff where its clearly a bait and switch..I was shown high quality art, which probably wasnt theirs in the first place..then given crap..seriously I cant draw at all and I could have done better..and I had to pay them 5 mil the Full asking price AND they still werent satisfied..bitched and moaned about not getting a tip..(And I know artists styles vary sometimes so I always ask..can you do my character similar to this piece in your DA or photobucket?? If they cant I expect them to be honest and let me know otherwise I dont think I should have to pay..If I'm never going to use the art..why pay?)

Sometimes I wish the UA's would look out for us buyers a wee bit better with this but eh what can you do...Buying art is a gamble and 98% of the time (in my experience) you get BETTER than what you expected *hugs ARE above her..(your art always comes out marvelous)

Sorry your friend got burned this time around and I hope next time is better :) Poke me sometime and I would be happy to give them some names of "consistent" artists that never let me down!

Edited because I'm slow and didnt realize this about about 'your friend' :)

Exactly.

And not EVERYTHING an artist is going to do is going to be perfection.

And it seems quite obvious to me (from the other board) who you're talking about. She might not be as good at one thing than she is at the other.

Therefore it's your FRIEND'S fault for not recognizing that. She still has to pay for it.

No matter what, I pay what I agreed on. There has been a handful of times that I have been greatly disappointed in the pieces I have gotten but I agreed to pay and they did the work so I will always, always pay what I agreed. I just wouldn't get art from that individual again

shakes her head I don't think we need to be attacking the OP here. They're not the one who's having a problem with the art, their friend commissioned it and was having a problem with the price.

I'm not agreeing with them, and actually think the art piece in question is rather cute and worth the 3.5 mil, but attacking somebody who has done nothing but complain on a friend's behalf isn't making one the bigger person. Just my opinion, anyways.

If you regret this thread, Maat, fill out a ticket and have the thread locked.

Not to mention, a vast majority of Subeteans are artists, and like 90% of the users on the forums will fiercely defend the artists like rabid beavers.

Besides, your friend doesn't have it that bad, at least the art is nice.

pokes picture

I ended up shelling out almost a mil for that scribble, as that's the price I agreed to before she started.
