I found out yesterday that the old PS game Spyro the Dragon has more games for the PS2. My 4 year old son LOVES the game, and I'm just wondering if anyone has opinions on the games: The Legend of Spyro: A New Beginning The Legend of Spyro: The Eternal Night The Legend of Spyro: Dawn of the Dragon

What are your thoughts about the games?

They are /nothing/ like the old games. Made by completely different people with a completely different story and style. Bit more darker than the old games, too.

I, personally, don't like the Legend of Spyro games whatsoever. But, your son might enjoy them.

I was looking at some of the art and screenshots and stuff on the website, and it DOES look really different. But I think he might like that, he loves games like Spiderman and Hulk and things like that. Those are often darker games. Thanks for your input :)

I agree with fashion, every since Insomniac stopped making the games Spyro hasn't been the same. Not only is the gameplay different, but the controls are also very clumsy. I can't remember which one for the ps2 it was, but in the one I was playing spyro had a difficulty turning. It was like his head was too big for his body.

Well, I'm considering buying it used from like Gamestop or something. It shouldn't be anymore than like 8$.

Legend of Spyro=crap. Seriously. They changed the nice, simple controls that I grew up with into a senseless button-mashing system that took me seven hours to get used to. All the different worlds have been replaced by four 'zones' that must be completed in a certain order, and if you get stuck at one part, you're screwed-if you want to advance, you just gotta keep doing it over and over until you get it right.

Want to get another Spyro game for your son? I recommend purchasing Spyro: A Hero's Tale for the Xbox/Gamecube/PS2. It's MUCH closer to the originals.

hmm, I think I would consider getting him another game. If your son likes action/adventure/fantasy games, you might want to try picking up Jak and Daxter, Sly Cooper or Ratchet and Clank. The games that came out for the PS2 were good, especially ratchet and clank. I used to play the original Spyros as a kid and and enjoyed these, so maybe so would your son?

We have Jak and Daxter, but I don't think we have the other games, the Sly Cooper or Ratchet and Clank. They sound fun though!! ^_^

He's just on a Spyro kick right now. But I'll look into the Hero's Tail (I just looked that up, didn't see it on the list of games :P)

That's a shame that the games changed so much, I remember playing them when I was younger :(

I went through my old games and found Spyro: Enter the Dragonfly. Aside from the clumsy controls, it feels almost like the originals. I wish I could be of more help =/

The new ones on the PS2 are absolutely rubbish. You can rent them and try them if you like, but I really don't recommend them. Just play the originals on the PS1, they're the best.
