Well, this is a pet topic.

I was washing my cat's "automatic water-bowl"/water fountain, and I remembered something I read earlier.

Do you think using this kind of thing instead of a bowl is lazy? Personally he's the only cat I've had that has one, and it's because he nearly dehydrated himself from sheer refusal to drink out of a standing bowl.

I clean it inside and out daily (he also tends to puke in his water and food so it's necessary to do it this often and more sometimes), which seems like it's actually more effort than if he just had a bowl.

TLDR; Pet water fountains lazy luxury or accommodating? Any of you use them/have stubborn pets?

I think that's another mundane task that just gets annoying after a while, so I don't see anything bad about auto water/feeders. Better than not watering/feeding your pet at all bc you're too lazy to do it?

Yeah I think it's only lazy if you don't clean it enough. I know if mine goes two days without a full cleaning it gets all gummy and that can't possibly be good for him. x_x

Depends on the situation, obviously. If my cat wouldn't drink out of a regular bowl, I would buy one. But in normal situations, I wouldn't spend the extra money to buy something to replace a task that takes about 2 seconds to do. But since you clean it everyday, it's basically the same as having a regular bowl.

I guess. What's wrong with being lazy?

I wouldn't really call it lazy, just a time saver. If your pets drink/eat a lot, then it would get a little tedious to have to refill things multiple times a day. My aunt fosters dogs, big dogs usually, plus she has 3 of her own, and she has two or three big 'automatic' water bowls/food bowls. I wouldn't get those myself because I only have one cat, and refilling the water bowl once a day isn't a big deal.
