Um, no. Actually, you can't. It drives me bonkers when I see users trying to demean other users or try to tell them that their personalities suck just because of their avatars.
I don't always make great avatars. Sometimes I make serious ones and sometimes I make funny ones like the one I'm wearing now. So because I make an avatar that isn't very appealing, that gives another user the right to talk down to me? This hasn't actually happened to me I am just using it as an example. But I have seen this on the forums and I don't think it's right.
People shouldn't have to put up with it. They should feel free to create whatever avatar they want to without the fear of making enemies or having people say nasty things to them.
That's true, but sometimes the person in question may actually have a nasty personality.
(Deeply hidden under layers of innocence, I'm sure.)
I totally agree with this. Sometimes my HA's reflect my personality (like when I dress it in lots of colours because I...well...like colours?) but sometimes they don't. Sometimes I go for a more evil look which isn't like me at all (I prefer Angelic pets to Dark Matter, go figure XP) so you really can't judge someone by how they dress their HA.
Honestly, I think anyone that does is a little bit silly. :P
Agreed. I do everything from preppy, to goth to borderline porno. Of course, most of it hardly represents me at all. They're just fun to make.
Thank you!
I hate how people assume someone is automatically a bitch or whatever based on their avatar. It's the dumbest thing.
Totally agree.
I saw somebody yesterday telling somebody to change their HA to make them seem more likable.
What?
Their HA was perfectly fine.
I have NO idea where you saw people criticize someone's avatar as a way to belittle them, but that's funny. If anyone takes that to heart, that's funny..
People say that? Really? I am nothing like my avatar. It's a doll that I dress up for kicks and fun. Do people think that little girls exhibit their personalities by how they dress up their little Barbie dolls with clothing they've been provided? Cause it's the exact same thing.
To me, that's just a very idiotic thing to say about someone.
Exactly! Having fun is the main thing. I have no idea why people think crap avatar = crap personality. It's a very stupid thing to assume.
Geez x_x That's absolutely insane!
Wow, I didn't even know that people were doing that rofl. It's like highschool all over again /sob
That is so so true XD
Avatar-makin' is srs business. If you're not doing it right then your personality is just wrong! :P
What I think is funny enough is that people think that whatever gender your HA is, you are.
I do it too but I don't try to assume it is.
and I have FUN making creepy kinda HA's

Tranny strippa? So last year.
Sry, couldn't read the thread, I was distracted by the avatar. ;)
I think you can judge a person on their avatar as well as you can based on their normal attire. If you do a crazy whacked out HA for shits and giggles, then you like messing around. If you do one covered in blood, then you must like blood.
So yeah, people can discern something about a person from their avatar but it's up to you whether you give a shit what they think.
Mmm. I can't agree with that.
Personally, I'd never seen anyone "demeaning" others' personalities because of their avatar. Like, I've never seen anyone specifically say anything like "Oh, you're a mean and annoying person because your avatar doesn't look as pretty and rich as mine." Especially on subeta, where the community is generally very nice, and when not then at least polite, I've never seen any sort of blatant avatar-related prejudice.
I'll admit that I judge others by their avatars quite a bit. The forums that I usually frequent, like the Avatar Discussion and Art forums, you can understand why avatars would be a reasonably way to judge someone, since people who are in advertising normally don't have the more expensive wearables people want to buy if their own HA looks poor and unmatched since rare wearables come from a long time of saving up and what-not, and in the art forums then of course your aesthetic ability to match colors and balance things would be reflected in your HA if you were good. Also--I'll speak for myself, I but I feel this is the way of lot of people think-- your HA isn't what people base their opinions of you solely on. Your HA in the forums is always accompanied by a post, you've noticed. If someone used ample chatspeak and improper grammar, then that would be something to judge them on.
Also, I think there's a very big, and obvious, difference between a "funny" avatar, like yours, and a bad, mismatched, unthemed, noobish avatar. I wouldn't think you were someone annoying at first glance of your avatar, and if others do then I can't understand why.
In any case, even in other forums, if your HA is filled with cheap items that are arranged, say, in a spectrum theme (disgusting, by the way) then I would assume you haven't been on Subeta long, and whether or not that's bad it's up to you to decide.
I'm more partial to judging by forumset. I base my opinions on how talented or rich someone is and the forumset displays that perfectly.
People do that? -fakeshock-
Yeah! Even if it may look a little cluttered and mismatched, you can't really judge them. Chances are they wish to look like that for a moment :P
I think my avatars reflect my personality :/ And I didn't know people actually did that.
