Look at the Upper Right corner of your screen. Where it says your UN, Amount of sP on hand, active pet, and friends online.

Hover over the number of Friends online and you'll see all the friends that you have that are online, as well as their status. You'll also see your own status. Click it and mess with it however you want. :)

It's the thin line after the comment link and right before your current friends online. You'll need to keep clicking in the vicinity of it till it pops open and lets you type, you aren't doing anything wrong :]
