I got the sims 3 for my birthday today. I just wanted to know, is the game good? I haven't installed it yet, and I want to know if Subeta users had it and thought it was any good. I might think different than anyone else, but still, I'd like everyone's opinions if anyone did get their hands on it.
It's interesting. I still like part 2 better but sims 3 has some interesting factors to it. It's fun to make the clothes, for instance. It's also fun to be able to roam the neighborhood and visit people. They always kick me out of their houses because my sim keeps hitting on the married guys. xD
XD You can make your own clothes? Awesome. I have the box on my desk right now. XD
Well, not entirely. You can make you own patterns and color for the clothes though. It's interesting.
I am going to just copy and paste a "mini review" that I did of the game on another site and you can decide from there. A lenghty read but I think I got all the key points in :) :
Right now it is just a base game, no seasons/weather, no pets, no apartments, holidays etc...so basically your Sims 2 base game with some added features like being able to fish, put leftovers away etc. The graphics are also better to some degree in 3, the water effects, shadows, moon over the water effects and glass are really great however when I showed my game to my sister yesterday she asked if I was playing Sims 2 O_o My graphics card can't handle the full intensity of the game (nearly everything is set to medium) so that may be a contributing factor but I'm not going to buy another pc if my current one can handle the game so far
The control of the Sims handle exactly the way they did in 2, point, click, select and then speed up actions A plus feature is now they have a little speed up button that will speed up the current action until it is finished and then return to normal speed.
The camera controls are the same although I find it slightly more finicky than what I was used to in Sims 2. No drastic changes here.
The control interface for the Sims has changed somewhat, most noticeable is the fact that the sims mood drives whether you earn what was formally known as aspiration points. If your mood bar is full (i.e. they are in a good mood), you get a point per minute (I think, not really going to go and time this ). You also get points by fulfilling wishes (formally known as wants). You use this points to purchase "rewards" for your sims such as being able to teleport or not get as hungry.
One of the best features of the game is the fact that the neighbourhood is explorable without having to go through the loading screen and then magically arrive at your destination. You also can roam freely throughout the town and visit friends, neighbours and other places of interest pauses to wait for people to get minds out of the gutter You also have BICYCLES (squee!) to ride around in! Now if only they made motorbikes...
The create-a-sim has been tweaked, you can now almost perfectly customise the sims facial features. There are alot more options available and are relatively easy to fathom out. A big plus here is that that gawky smile (you know, that cut out joker type smile that they were prone to doing) that so plagued the sims in S2 is not a problem here. In fact, the sim really scares me by just blinking and looking around the room... Clothing can be customised by changing the colours to suite your tastes. What I really liked in create-a-sim was the way you could customise the hair colour, from roots to highlights to tips! Clothing and hair types are limited, I really wanted to see a bigger range here.
Sims no longer use the zodiac signs to determine personality, you can determine individually if they will be a neat, psychopathic genius who is a couch potato by choosing their personality traits. It is a nice feature but having limited it to five traits was a bit restrictive. Conflicting personalities are also not available e.g. your sim can't be active and lazy at the same time. The Sims chosen personality also reflects the type of job they are best suited to, how they interact with other sims and by themselves.
Earning money is the same: get a job, work, get promoted by doing certain things to get more money. I haven't played that much of the game but from my experience it is more intrusive than in the previous game...your sim may have to work overtime, be pals with certain people in order to get promoted etc and this, while interesting, does feel a bit too much like "real life" to enjoy
Building and decorating your house is the same with the interface made more user-friendly. A picture is displayed and you click on the type of item that you want to build or buy (e.g. click on a picture of the windows to see the selection to buy from etc).
An annoyance in the game is the time that passes for a sim to sleep...it moves far to slowly whereas eating, using the bathroom and the other needs increase really rapidly. I suppose it counters out and it won't drastically affect gameplay.
Overall, this game is an improvement over Sims 2 however I feel that it is not as big a leap as what was seen between Sims 1 and Sims 2. More of a Sims 2.5 than 3. Gameplay is similar, graphics to some extent and similar rewards system...but I suppose if it is not broke, why change it
It is a great game, highly addictive and if you were a Sims 2 fan, there is no reason not to get this game. The tweaks make it worth it!
Thanks. I started playing it two hours ago and I forgot to stop playing every once in a while. :P
