So today I was back at my apartment when my mom decided to stop by. Being the nice daughter that I am, I decided to take her out to lunch today. We got to the restaurant and were walking towards the door when she grabbed me and started pointing. LOOK LOOK LOOK.
As I look to where she is pointing, I see a mother duck with her babies crossing the street. We see ALL the cars stopped for them and then the ducks get up on the sidewalk.
Most of them. As we watch in horror, only 4 ducklings make it over the sidewalk curb. As I get closer, I see what is happening. They are on a storm drain and the ducklings are dropping between the bars. I see only 1 other one make it and 4 fall down the drain.
As soon as the mother duckling gets the rest of the ducklings over, the drivers get going. Asking me if the ducks made it over, I was like uhhh no some fell down the drain T___T. A post man comes over and looks down the drain since we can hear chirping and runs off to call someone.
Mom and I go the restaurant all T___T. We ask the waitress if we could sit by the window and she responds that there are no servers there. We tell her that someone will come out and get the ducklings and we want to see. She then says ok, she would wait on us personally.
The next thing we know, the rescue truck comes zooming down. Seeing them come SO CLOSE but go the other freaking way makes me walk over and say HAI SIRS. THE DUCKS are OVER THAR and point them in the right direction.
The rescue team pulls the drain cover off, and scoops the babies up one by one and plops them in a box. The mother duck never really left the scene and they get the rest of the ducklings away from here and put them in the box too. They then take the box and bring it to the river...the mother duck of course following the cries of her babies. The rescue team puts the babies in the river and lets mommy do her job. :) It made me happy and here is a picture I took of one of the rescued ducklings.

Aww, that really did make me very happy. <3 Good endings for win.
Aww, how cute. And here I thought happy endings didn't exist. ^_^
oh my god that is so sweet ;_________; i hope ducks have a new found hope for humans.
AW. That's so cute. It makes me happy that people are so nice and willing to help the little buggers get out of sticky situations like that!
Aww, that sounds like something that happened a few weeks ago at my fire company. A baby deer fell into a pond and couldn't get out so we went out and rescued it and sent it back into the woods. The really funny part was, there was a picture of the rescue printed in the local paper of one of the guys that hunts deer all the time LOL
aww oh gosh, that was cute. I thought for a second that something bad was gonna happen D:
AWW!
You have made my night. (:
My faith in humanity is restored by stories like this one.
This actually happened to a friend of mine. She lives on a lake and there are lots of ducks. She and her mom saw a mother duck with ducklings crossing the street and the same thing happened - a few of the ducklings fell into a storm drain.
So they called 911 or something and a rescue crew came rushing out and rescued the ducklings.
❤ I absolutely love stories like these. (and that little duckling is so cute! omg)
Aww, what a sweet story. That just made my night, teehee! ❤ Ducklings are so cute. Falling into a drain must not be a very good experience. o_O
