so...for about six months now i've been very...suspicious of my mother's activity. now my mother is a saint and i couldn't imagine her doing anything illegal so i don't want to believe it.

anyhow, sometimes she goes outside, which isn't strange or anything, but when she comes back...well she smells FUNNY. at first i didn't know what, it was a bit like cig. smoke and i assumed it was from my cousin who smoked. but the smell was kind of different you know?

this was happening for a while right? she would go out and sit/read/whatever alone and would come back smelling strange. one day i'm looking for something for a project on the top shelf in her room (the top shelf is not off-limits.) i find my mom's bag open. i look inside because it feels heavy and it smells funny that same funny. and i look inside and i see... this pipe.

at the time i didn't know what it was(well, other than speculation, but i didn't want to believe it) but it was the source of the smell. i dont tell her about it and months pass and tonight she was hanging with my dad's friend outside, and when they came out the smelled funny again.

so...advice? i don't know what to do. is this exactly what i think it is? is my mom smokin; POT?

My dad would always go into the bathroom for extended periods of time, and while he was in there an odd smell would leak throughout the house (AND NO NOT POO SMELL) and leave me baffled as to why it smelled funky. It was a very unique smell, I'm still not sure how to describe it. Not exactly a bad smell but not a great smell either..

A month or two back I went to a hotel with some friends of mine (we were staying in Georgia bc we were going to Six Flags the next day :B) and I had smelt that same smell leaking through the jointed room's door lmao. Then my friend was like, "They're smoking pot in that room lolol." and I was like... o__________0 "So that's what that smell is." It was a huge moment of realization. xD

ANYWAY. irdk what to tell you about what to do, but look for the stoner signs if you want confirmation it's weed. Y'know red eyes, delayed reaction, sleepiness and the classic i'mfuckinghungryeateverything. The smell of it's really distinct and usually sticks, and by the way you said it it sounds like mary jane's been visiting your moms. :(

[edit] OH, AND I GUESS figuring out what to do is to first figure out how you feel about it. I, myself have no problem with pot bc to me it's just something that grows from momma earth and doesn't have bad side effects (err except that whole lung cancer thing and stuff but that's another story) like alcohollll (aka barf) and isn't addictive (though it can be habit forming, it's said...)

If you're against it then well, I say talk to a oooh trusted adult. Not sure what to tell ya about taking action. D:

If it smells kind of "sweaty" or "spicey" it's definitely pot. I wouldn't worry about it though; as long as she still behaves responsibly and isn't suddenly doing things she'd never do without it it's really not worse than a normal cigarette.

If you worry about it the best thing to do is just confront her with it and talk about it, she's your mum after all.

Anyway, as for what to do. If you're scared, you could always ask her. Just don't tell her you went through her things ;D. Just make sure you do your research first, remember that Weed really isn't that harmful, and in many cases is probably a lot better than alcohol. She's obviously concerned you may find out, which is why she goes outside to do it and tells you not to look around in her room. She's hiding it because she obviously doesn't want to scare you, so just make sure you're not angry when you talk to her about it. If you choose to confront of course! Just remember, it's not as dangerous as many people make out :).

It may be illegal, yes. But trust me, better Weed than something like Heroin right! Try and get out of the 'illegal' mindset though, everything is fine in moderation if you know enough about your own personal limits with it to make an informed decision for yourself :).

lmao that's exactly what i was thinking of doing, actually. asking her why she smelled funny, etc. my other plan was to put a note in her pot bag (where she keeps the pipe) or you know, blackmail. :P

if you want to be treated like an adult, you should act like an adult.

confront your mother on the issue but do so in a way that is non-aggressive. you should really tell her how you feel about this issue and that you are concerned.

you have every reason to do so. if your mother gets pissy or has a negative reaction to your query... that is another matter. definitely talk with her. ^_^

It depends on what that pipe looks like.

If its glass, it might be meth or crack. If its metal, with a removable cone piece its pot.

From the smell of course I'm assuming pot.

yikes, and I thought I freaked out when I learned my dad was smoking regular cigarettes....worst part is, he's an EMT, he knows what smoking does to people... If I found out one of my parents was doing pot, i would probably explode

I reckon you'd notice it a LOT more if your mum was on Meth, ha. You can get little glass pipes to smoke Weed in too :).

Both my parents and brother smoke pot.

Pot isn't bad at all. It's just illegal because the government can't make any money off it.
