I had to smile at what my mum was telling me today. =)
She went to an event organized for NAIDOC week. NAIDOC stands for the National Aboriginal and Islander Day Observance Committee, and the day is to recognize the achievements made by indigenous Australians. Anyway, one of her workers was watching some of the kids that had gone to the event. There was one child that was about 5-6 years old. You could tell that they were Aboriginal, but they were certainly not black. And there was a darker child that was about 10-12 years old. As she watched, the older kid went up to this tiny little primary student. Their conversation went like this:
Older Child: "You must be half Aboriginal, right?" Younger Child: "No. I'm Aboriginal." Older Child: "Nah, nah, nah. You must be half." Younger Child: "No. I'm an Aboriginal." Older Child: "You can't be full. You must be half."
By which the tiny kid looked right into the eyes of the older and said.
"It's not the colour of your skin. It's who you are inside."
I seriously want to find this kid and give him a hug.
So chit-chatters, what do you think? Do you think it's skin colour that makes a person. Or what they wear, say, do, etc? Or is it truly what is inside a person that makes them who they are.
I think so.
Aww he/she sounds so cute :3 No I don't think it matters on the colour of the skin. To me its like comparing someone because of their religion and sex.
that's pretty sweet. ^^ and i don't judge people for their skin's colour, religion, sexual orientation or wtv. c:
That's adorable... And it would be simply cruel to judge someone simply by how light or dark their skin is, or if they're a female or they're into Buddha(SP?). :/

aww that is great! i wanna hug this kid now.
i hate it when people judge others by the color of their skin. its just mean. (and its a bigger problem than the gay/lesbian bias that people are oh-so-worried about)
Working on filled wardrobe achievement. Almost at 12k!
lol except the kid is wrong.
if he is half, and feels full, he still is half. it's a great saying, but it doesnt always fly.
also
Yes its all about whats inside. What looks out of the eyes. The perfect, beautiful soul.
It's not what they may be in terms of DNA, it's the fact that they are proud of who they are. Which is what I find wonderful. You don't find many people like that in any society.
Awwww, I would have wanted to hug him, too. He is so young, but already far more wise than that older kid! That was a great story. It has lifted my mood a bit just reading. :)
I wanna hug him too. That's something a lot of people cannot say.
If everyone had that mentality, things would be so much easier.
Wow, that's a gorgeous story. I love that little kid! And definitely, it's who you are inside that's important. ❤️
Nope :) I don't judge people for the color of their skin.
However people do judge me for being half Guyanese; half white -_- They think that I drink all the time/do drugs etc...
:/
Well I can't exactly go around saying I'm black when I'm clearly not, just because IT'S WHAT MATTERS ON THE INSIDE.
But to judge someone based solely on their skin color, without knowing anything else about them, isn't right, obviously.
