I'm considering buying either Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro; they're the most popular art programs and I found many brushes and tutorials for them, so these are my two options.
Does anyone have experience with either program? If so, which one would be a better investment?

PHOTOSHOP. xD I use it alot. Ohmygosh hunny, you'll love it. Heres a website for tutorials wwwcreateblogcom change the *'s into .'s
I prefer to use PSP I just never got into Photoshop and it always gives me a ton of hassle when I try to use it. I guess it depends on what you're mostly going to use it for.
Also you can transfer Photoshop brushes to PSP which is the main reason I never switched. If that's a deciding factor for you.
Forgot to add, just download the free trial for each program and play around with them a bit.

Photoshop can be a very difficult program to understand and master. Although it's a great Multitasker when it comes to art and other things. It's good for art, graphics, and you can even do some animation with it. So I'll have to go with that. Open Canvas is also a decent art program, though.
Yea, it's mainly what you wanna use it for. I made my siggy on Photoshop.
Paint Shop Pro is crap, imho. I've always used Photoshop and I love it. It does take some getting used to, but once you do it's really easy and efficient.
Animation? ohyesplz (:
It's pretty (: I think I'm leaning more towards Photoshop... what's the newest program version?
[edit] With both programs you can make transparent images, right?

the newest program of Photoshop I believe is CS4.. Now I have photoshop 7.0 So I dont know too much about the new ones. I think the new ones are confusing : / But if you do more research you might find it easy. Now on Photoshop, you can do animation. But say you save an image as gif, from the internet. But you wanna edit it on PS, you cant. Imageready is more for that.
Now I dont know if the new ver. of PS can do animation, But i bet it can
Hm? On PS you can do transparent
Photoshop Elements 7.0, right? I saw that at some store nearby, I'll probably get that. Even if its confusing, I'll probably just sit there the whole day when I get it and toy with it. ^^

No no XD I just have Adobe Photoshop 7.0
Now the only problem with having 7.0 is, you can't download certain brushes. Some brushes are for newer vers.
I used to have Photoshop 7.0 (and I need it again, absolutely). I liked it alot and I don't think it's hard to understand (at least I had no problem with it ever and I'm not THAT good at stuff like that.. and there are lots of tutorials out there that help out pretty well).
I've used both, PS CS2 and CS3, and I don't know what versions of PSP. Photoshop kicks PSP's ass. I unfortunately can't quite put it into words, but Photoshop is just a better quality program. If you learn how to use it you'll get better results than you would in PSP (in my experience).
Besides that, PS is far more common and you'll have fewer issues with compatibility, like with brushes, plugins or whatever.
Okay. Does it expire...? Stupid question, but I just need to know. :/

... expire? o__O; Trials expire, but programs don't, if that's what you mean?
CS4 is the newest version, but any CS will do, really. :| Photoshop is a lot easier to use than PSPro.
Paint sho pro has the worst brushes I have ever seen in a program.
I know, I was just wondering... xD
You mean the brushes they come with?
Ugh I'm asking too many questions...

It all depends on what you wish to do with the program, in all honesty. Paint Shop Pro can be good to utilize as a Digital Painting program, However if you wish to do quite a lot of different things, I would Professionally advise you to go with Photoshop.
I use it everyday, Work, Home -- nearly everywhere I go, I crack it out and start using it. I've used it for about 4/5 years now and I have had no problems with it what so ever, It may have a strong learning curve to a beginner just opening up the program, However as you have stated it does have a lot of resources and tutorials for people to learn from. There is another program in which you can digital paint from also which is Corel Painter, That is a very nice program but also has a learning curve.
All of the programs do work very well with a Graphics Tablet, or Without. It all depends on what you wish to know within Graphics Design / Art, and which program ultimately YOU will feel safe and comfortable with.
Kindest Regards, Kevin.
