The Big Lunch

'what is the Big Lunch?' i hear you ask...well as the bumph on its homepage explains:

'it's a party in your street, in everyone's street. On 19th July we're asking the people of Britain to stop what they're doing and sit down to lunch together. Why? Well for lots of reasons really but mainly to put a smile back on Britain's face.'

people all over Britain have come together today to organise street parties with their neighbours in the pursuit of happiness and unity...

are you taking part today or do you know someone who is...?...how do you feel about events like this and would you like the idea of it coming to a street near you...? :)

We never have those here.. Not like I feel like lunching in the middle of the street, as cars love to use our street.

( lolled by the way ' Last Post: The Big Lunch... by Voldemort' run kids, run! )

i checked my street online, but no street party here...i could have simply peeked out of the window and got the same result, but i was too lazy to leave the computer... XD

there are a few happening right now in the surrounding neighbourhood tho...i could sneak by and help myself to a sandwich... :D

Unless it's the 4th of July, or something bad has happened.

Oh god, would be a nice idea if I liked and/or knew my neighbours.

I sort of live on a council estate, and the vast majority of my neighbours are shouty chavs and mums that publicly swear at their small children. It would be a disaster and everyone would probably get mad pissed.

Aww that's a great idea ^_^

Didn't they have something like that once where everyone held hands down a street and tried to see how far it could stretch?

IDK lol

Didn't happen here. My street is full of chavs and anti-social people though. You only have to look at some of them and they'll threaten to beat you up. Besides, it was pouring with rain all day. Hardly stopped at all.

Actually it's unrealistic to think that you would be able to do it in the US because there is a lot more ground to cover and there is more than one time zone to consider (please correct me if I am wrong folks but I do believe the U.K is all in one time zone).

Granted I am not saying it is a bad idea but a better way to do it in the US would be to actually do it on a community level (and some communities actually do this, there was a block party the week before the fourth of july weekend in Long Beach, and it was not in place of the 4th of july smash because they had that one too). It just depends on where you live and the people who live there.
