My cat died. She was 16 which is old for a cat but it still doesn't make it any easier. Our other two cats died of kidney failure, one three years ago and the other four years ago and Flossy also died of it. We knew she was dying because she had the symptoms our other cats had. My mum and I went on vacation last Monday and that's when she died. My dad phoned us in tears to tell us the news. He was absolutely heartbroken, it was so sad.

It's been weird coming back home and knowing she's not there. There's no more cat-basket since she was our one remaining cat (we used to have four) and the cat-food is gone. It's going to be really hard to live life without cats but we've said we aren't going to have any more.

Flossy was a lovely cat and I'm just glad she lived till old age.

RIP Flossy. You will be missed but will always be loved.

What are the signs of kidney failure? I'm sorry for your loss. But you'll always have memories of her. :)

Thank you SPIRIT and Moh. Yes, she definitely lived a happy life and I'm very glad. The signs of kidney failure are rapid weight loss, excessive drinking, urinating often and the cats also start to smell really bad. At least, that's what happened to our cats. The vets diagnosed them all with kidney failure and they had to be put to sleep.

I sadfaced and teared up reading that. I'm terribly sorry that happened to you, I know that it's hard to cope with death. I used to have a cat whom died as well, but I eventually stopped thinking about the negatives and remembered the good times. She had a good owner, I can tell, and she wouldn't want you to be sad for too long. R.i.p Flossy.

Awww, I'm so sorry. It's horrible when a pet dies.

We lost our dog we had had for 16 years last March. She had really bad cataracts and suffered from seizures. She took a seizure beside the garden pond, fell in and drowned. It was so sad.

Aww. :( I'm so sorry. Losing pets is always so sad. I'm glad she lived to an old age.

One of my cats died last spring. She had just turned 18. She had been dying for a long time and wasting away. She wasn't in pain so we decided to just wait for her to die instead of putting her down. She died in my mom's lap. It was really sad because I'd had her my whole life.

It sounds to me like Flossy had a nice long life. You can rest assured that she was happy. (: RIP.

Sorry about the loss of Flossy.

I am glad she got to live a long and happy life and in time your pain will lessen.

For the time being hopefully small things will come your way to cheer you up.

Oh, that's too bad. I'm not one for cats most the time, but I know the loss of any pet can tear someone to pieces. ):

My grandma's cat, that I grew up with, had to be put down a couple months ago. She was twenty-four and still spry, but she had started peeing blood and ambling around the house, like she forgot where she was going. I'll miss her, she was older than I am. ]:

Thank you everyone. I grew up with loads of pets. At one time we had seven pets in the house, now we've just got one. It's to be expected since they never live as long as us but it still doesn't really prepare you.

- Sorry that you went through the same thing a month ago :(

- That's awful. I'm sorry that you lost her in such a cruel way :( We lost our dog in a similar way when I was about 6. He had a heart attack and fell into the canal. We didn't know what happened until a passer by told us that there was a dead dog in the canal.

- Aww, that's a shame. At least she died quite peacefully, though. One of our cats died like that. She was the only one who didn't die of kidney failure. She just got really thin and then died. She was 22 so she was ancient hehe.

- 24...wow! It's nice that a lot of cats die very old, so that they have at least been able to fulfil a long and happy life :)

- My gosh that's awful! :( You must live in a horrible place. I don't know how people can inflict such cruelty on animals, especially other people's pets.
