Someone shot my mom's cousin. Just drove by her house shooting. She's in her 60s and someone fucking shot her on New Year's. OFC the hospitals are a madhouse on "drinking holidays".
She's been there over three hours and hasn't been seen by the surgeon yet.
Edit: They're airlifting her to another hospital now. She can't even have anything for pain because her blood pressure is so low. I just can't even fucking process this.
That's awful, I hope she'll be alright.

I don't know; it sounds like they only hit her house. Her son heard three shots and all three were there. Idk why anyone would shoot at her house though.
Oh poor thing. That's so horrible. I don't why anyone would possibly want to shoot at an older lady's house either. I can only think of worthless punks who might think it's funny. Either that or they wanted to shoot someone else and got the wrong fucking address >_>
That's so disturbing to think things like that can happen to anyone -- all because of other people. We live in a not-so-nice neighbourhood and that's one of my worst fears.

It really is. I mean she was just sitting there in her living room watching tv. She doesn't even live in that bad of an area. It's not like a gated community or an expensive area to live in, but it's ok.

This is horrible! I'm so sorry this happened.. and on new years? :( I hope everything has gone well since it happened.
Well, that first hospital needs to be sued. They told everyone that the bullet missed the artery and...it hadn't. That artery was almost in two. And they just kept putting more blood in her and waited and waited for their surgeon. UM. Isn't arterial bleeding kind of...IDK...dramatic?
She could lose her leg now because they waited so long before sending her to another hospital. The people at UAB have harvested a bit of vein from her upper leg to use and it looks like there's a good chance they can save her leg, but it's scary. And she laid there in that first hospital for three and a half hours all that time with nothing for the pain and limited blood flow.
Fucking small town hospital. The minute they saw that they couldn't do anything or after they couldn't find their surgeon (after say half an hour or so) they should've had her sent to Birmingham (nearest major city and UAB has a level 1 trauma center). They could've driven her to UAB in like a quarter the time that they were waiting for the surgeon.
Edit: She's finally out of surgery now and the doctors think there was enough blood flow that she's not going to lose her leg, but said it's going to be a long road even if they have saved her leg. It was a seven hour long surgery. It just breaks me that this happened to her. She's so sweet.
Holy crap I cannot believe that happened. Some people just need to be removed from this Earth. Who the fuck goes around SHOOTING at people with guns. That's not even a fun party kind of thing; that's just psychotic. I hope she'll be able to keep her leg and her recovery will go smoothly.
Jesus christ. I'm not one for suing at the drop of a hat, but I would definitely be talking to a lawyer about that. That is completely unacceptable. I'm just glad everything at this point seems to be ok.
Oh my gosh that's so scary. My mom's older brother was shot and killed in the early 80s in a hate crime. Guns are scary and so are violent people with guns. There needs to be stricter guns laws in the US. Anyway I hope she comes out ok. So many doctors are next to incompetent. Thinking of you guys! Keep us updated.
It's a dramatic change in care coming from that hospital to UAB. She's doing much better. Her IV came out and they had a little trouble getting another started because she was a little dehydrated, but other than that she's doing really well. They're taking such good care of her there. I'm still afraid for her because she's not a young woman (she's 72; I could've sworn she was in her 60s) and infection can happen to anyone, but it really looks like she's going to be ok now.
That first hospital is damned lucky too. I doubt she (or her sons) will sue since it's looking better for her. They're better people than I am. I'd get every nickle I could out of them in court if it was me. I wouldn't even care how much the lawyers kept for themselves. I'm still hoping they will sue, but I doubt it'll happen.

Just saw this thread. I'm glad it looks like she is going to be okay. She and her family will still be in my thoughts
I'm glad she is doing okay, SO sorry that this happened! At least she got out of that other hospital in time to get the care she needed.
Yesterday she started coughing up blood and they say her lungs were filling with fluid. So. Sounds like a blood clot.
WOAH this is heavy. I hope she gets through all of this, that's absolutely nuts. Was there an investigation in regards to the shooter or is that too far gone?
I hope it's not a blood clot, and that her recovery has as few hiccups as possible, nobody deserves that and nobody deserves to not be seen like that at a hospital either. Sue them into the ground.
